Orbit v1.3.0 — your desktop in orbit
The first public release 🛰️
Orbit is a lightweight SteamVR overlay for Windows: a watch on your wrist, your monitors - or single app windows - as curved screens around you with a laser mouse, a full VR keyboard, and a settings panel you can grab in VR.
Highlights
- Wrist watch with four faces (full, analog, minimal, time only), batteries, frame timing as numbers or a live graph, and now playing with media buttons.
- Desktop in VR - every monitor as a panel, joined into one curved screen at first start. Grab, move, bend, resize with both hands, snap panels into rows.
- Single windows - mirror just a browser, Discord or a video player. They follow the window on your PC, and a click brings it to the front first.
- VR keyboard that follows your Windows layout (plus a built-in English layout), pops up by itself when you click into a text field, and can type into the VRChat chatbox.
- Layout profiles (Desk / Bed / Couch) switchable from the watch, and a night mode that dims everything.
- Themes and any accent colour, XSOverlay-format notifications (e.g. from VRCX), XSOverlay-compatible avatar parameters for DXOverlay and similar avatar add-ons.
- Smart frame rate: what you look at runs at the headset's refresh rate, the rest is throttled.
- Check for updates in Settings > General - from now on Orbit updates itself from these releases.
Downloads
OrbitSetup.exe- the installer (Windows 10 2004+ / 11, self-contained, nothing else to install). Installs for your user only; starts with SteamVR if you want.
The installer isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say Windows protected your PC: click More info > Run anyway. On the first start Orbit asks once for administrator rights so the VR mouse also works in admin windows - you can say No.
