@Erik1028 Erik1028 released this 19 Oct 23:07
  • Now playing opens into Mixtape's whole player while Mixtape plays (or is paused with nothing else playing): the queue,
the song list, albums, playlists and the lyrics, synced; the card's buttons and cover are Mixtape's then. Another
player's song: the usual view, with a Mixtape button to open the player anyway. Needs Mixtape 0.23 ("Control from
other apps" on - Settings › Safety, on by default); a Mixtape widget on your watch turned into Now playing.
  • Your Tapo bulb without Lumos: OrbitOverlay goes straight to the bulb by itself, with the account Hexpad or Lumos
keeps; with neither, "Go direct" asks for it in the desktop window. Only the bulb's key is kept, never the password.
  • The light by itself (its opened view, Auto): on when SteamVR starts, dimmed while theater mode plays (its brightness
back after), and if you like, the colour of the cover playing. A 1x1 light opens on a tap; its switch is inside.
  • New widget: CPU time - how much CPU time the game takes a frame. Over the frame's budget, the CPU holds it back.
  • Eye cursor (VRChat > Eye cursor): "On click" - the laser jumps to where you look as you click; "Follow" - on the
monitors the cursor follows your eyes, smoothed, with no pointer line; your hand takes over everywhere else.
  • Pull a window off a monitor: drag it past the edge into the air and it floats as a panel of its own (Windows >
    "Pull windows off a monitor").
  • A friend joining your instance buzzes the watch (VRChat > "Buzz for friends").
  • The Cyber watch boots every time you look at it - quicker when you look back within 20 s - and starts once the
watch is really in view, not while your wrist is still turning up.
  • The laser no longer jumps up onto a screen: with Virtual Desktop's controllers their aim pose drops out now and then,
and for that frame the beam used the controller's raw pose, 10-17 degrees off.
  • The theater bar under the middle screen opens only when the laser stays at the screen's bottom a moment: passing it
on the way down to the keyboard no longer pops it up.
  • Smoother monitors: a captured frame goes back to Windows at the next poll instead of waiting for its copy (up to
4.6 ms a poll in VR); the SteamVR dashboard tab is drawn once beforehand (its first draw stuttered).
  • OSC: "Orbit/Style" (1 Modern ... 7 Cyber) for avatars that dress in OrbitOverlay's style.

  • The watch comes into view without a hitch: the volume and the microphone are read in the background (a call to Windows'
audio took up to 14 ms of its first frame).
  • The volume mixer works in the background: in VR it no longer held OrbitOverlay up for ~9 ms every second or two.
  • The laser's mouse and the keyboard's keys go to Windows on a thread of their own: an app hooked into the mouse that
answers slowly no longer holds the overlay up (4-10 ms a time).
  • Your settings are saved in the background (a save held it up for 13-16 ms, the first one 49 ms).
  • The first look at the watch and the first notification after OrbitOverlay starts no longer stutter: both are drawn
    once beforehand, with your data.
  • The log's own measuring no longer takes 7-15 ms every 10 s; a "spike:" line in it says where the slowest frame of each
    10 s went.

Download OrbitOverlaySetup.exe and run it (OrbitSetup.exe is the same file, for the updater of 1.6 and older). Installed copies offer the update themselves: Settings > General > Check for updates.

@Erik1028 Erik1028 released this 18 Oct 20:58
  • New watch widgets: Photo (your newest VRChat photos), Weather, Folder (widgets grouped behind one card), Friends
online and Session recap (from VRCX), On this day (a photo from a year ago), Temperatures (CPU and GPU, with a hot
alert), Light (your Tapo bulb - through Lumos, or straight to the bulb: "Go direct" in the editor), RGB (Prisma)
and Avatar toggles (the avatar you wear: its toggles, numbers and sliders, sent to VRChat over OSC).
  • The editor's widget list has categories and a search (type in the desktop window).
  • Gaze focus (Desktops > "Focus the monitor you look at"): the monitor you look at is full size, the others tuck in
small beside it - a row of three is a lot narrower. It follows your look quickly; "Laser too" off = only the look
    moves it, not the lasers.
  • Eye tracking (VRChat > Eye tracking): with Virtual Desktop's eye tracking ("Forward tracking data" on), your eyes
drive gaze focus, show the watch only when you look at it, give the monitor you look at its full frame rate, and can
dim the monitors you are not looking at. Without it, everything goes by your head as before.
  • Theater mode: an Ambilight glow round the screen in its picture's colours; a backdrop of its own in every style (a
dark cinema hall, Windows 95's starfield, an XP night over the hills, 7's glass ribbons, a calm Mac night, green
phosphor); Auto theater starts it when a video goes full screen (Layouts > Theater mode, off by default).
  • Cyber's night city lives: windows light up and go dark, a sign buzzes now and then, antennas blink, cars and a drone
glide along the skyline; the neon horizon breathes with the sound and a spark runs round it as the city powers up.
Its floor grid is only in front of you and only a short way down, smooth - no more low-poly edges.
  • The Cyber theater bar is a media console: what is playing, its progress, play / pause and 10 s back / forward.
  • Recenter puts the keyboard under the bar too, and in theater under the big screen.
  • Faster: the Modern keyboard draws 6 times faster at rest, the settings panel only redraws when something on it
changes, coming into theater no longer stutters, and the panels make far less garbage.
  • Lighter while nothing shows: with every panel away OrbitOverlay reads the controllers less often, leaves the GPU's
high priority to the game and does next to nothing (~0.1 ms a frame); the animations start sooner.
  • The laser's cursor changes shape (arrow, I-beam, hand) without a hitch: each shape is drawn once and kept.
  • Your settings from the version before are kept as config.backup-.json after an update.
  • Fixed: the light widget said "bulb not reachable" when Lumos was not running; Cyber's skyline flickered and moved
with the screen; the 1x1 analog clock and some small notes were off on coloured cards; Hungarian words cut short.

Download OrbitOverlaySetup.exe and run it (OrbitSetup.exe is the same file, for the updater of 1.6 and older). Installed copies offer the update themselves: Settings > General > Check for updates.

@Erik1028 Erik1028 released this 17 Oct 06:09
  • The Notifications widget opens into a big view like the others: the last notifications, newest first, with where
they came from and when; the stick scrolls, Clear empties the list. Every style draws it its own way (the retro ones
as an inbox window, the Terminal as a log).
  • Cyber: the opened clock is a real HUD (the yellow time card, the dial, the date, the day so far, time in VR, a timer),
and so are Now playing, the frame rate and the system views.
  • Theater mode: the dimming goes all the way round you and fades out softly above and below - no edge to see. In
Cyber it is a night city: a neon horizon, a synthwave floor, a lit skyline with a retro sun, powering up as the
    screen comes in.
  • Recenter puts the keyboard in the middle under your monitors (also when it is hidden).
  • Cyber is a lot lighter: its keyboard draws about 15 times faster, its settings twice as fast, with livelier HUD
animations (key presses, buttons, switches, tab changes, the theater lock-on). Every panel saves a little time too.
  • Fixed in Magyar: the 12-hour clock's "du." and the time card's seconds label.

Download OrbitOverlaySetup.exe and run it (OrbitSetup.exe is the same file, for the updater of 1.6 and older). Installed copies offer the update themselves: Settings > General > Check for updates.

@Erik1028 Erik1028 released this 16 Oct 14:59
  • Settings > General > Language: English or Magyar, in every style.
  • The Windows volume works in VR: with Virtual Desktop the apps follow the Windows slider, the volume keys and
Hexpad's knob, each keeping its own balance (Wrist > "Windows volume in VR" turns it off).
  • A new Volume mixer widget: the apps playing, each with its own slider and a tap on its icon to mute; opened, it is
the whole mixer (in the retro styles the Windows 95 Volume Control).
  • Alerts: a card and a buzz in the controller when a battery runs low (and, if you turn it on, when the frame rate
    stays low for 10 s) - Settings > General > Alerts.
  • B / Y twice on an OrbitOverlay panel shows the keyboard (or pins the watch) - Settings > VRChat.
  • Per game layouts: when a SteamVR app starts, OrbitOverlay can switch to a layout and a watch page of your choice.
  • Share a watch page: save it as a file or copy it as text (it fits a Discord message), and add one from a file or the
clipboard - the editor's share button.
  • Cyber: the settings, the keyboard, the panels and every watch face are now a real HUD, with its own animations for
the menu, the monitors, theater mode and the keyboard; the Look tab shows only what Cyber uses.
  • No Windows frame on the settings window in any style: it draws its own, with its own minimise and close.
  • The widgets in the editor in ABC order; the page dots in a strip of their own under the cards.
  • The new logo is now also on the SteamVR dashboard button, in the settings and in the installer.
  • Fixed: "Default look" could put the pink default colours back over your own after an update; the microphone and
the volume could stop working after an audio error; "What's new" sat on "Check for updates".

Download OrbitOverlaySetup.exe and run it (OrbitSetup.exe is the same file, for the updater of 1.6 and older). Installed copies offer the update themselves: Settings > General > Check for updates.

Cyber in every style list

  • The Style list in the Windows 7, Classic Mac and Terminal settings now offers Cyber too (it had six styles there).

Seven styles, all of them moving

  • Five new styles in Settings > Look > Style, besides Modern and Windows 95: Windows XP, Windows 7, Classic Mac, Terminal and Cyber. Each one draws the watch, the settings, the keyboard, notifications, the screen bar and the Room and Hexpad views the way that system really looked.
    • Windows XP: Luna windows, Tahoma, green progress blocks; opened widgets become Date and Time Properties, Task Manager and Windows Media Player; notifications are tray balloons.
    • Windows 7: glass windows, the Control Panel look, the On-Screen Keyboard and the Windows 7 Minesweeper.
    • Classic Mac: platinum windows with Chicago and Geneva type; the room is a Finder list, the screen bar a Control Strip.
    • Terminal: green phosphor with scanlines, a BIOS-style setup screen and Unix broadcast messages.
    • Cyber: a sci-fi HUD with yellow tags, cut corners, segmented bars and a glitching time card.
  • Every style has its own animations: Cyber boots its HUD, Terminal switches on like a CRT, the Mac zooms its windows, XP and Windows 7 fade and glow, Modern springs and slides. Windows 95 stays as still as it was.
  • Settings > Look > Motion: Full, Reduced (short transitions only) or Off (nothing moves).
  • A new OrbitOverlay icon on the desktop, the taskbar and the tray.
  • Fixed: the microphone widget no longer gives up after an audio error.

Smooth Hexpad on the watch

  • Hexpad's keys and knobs on the watch now move as smoothly as Hexpad sends them, instead of a few times a second.

Room and Hexpad open on the watch

  • The VRChat room widget opens right on the watch: tap it and it grows into the list of who is in the world, your friends, how long you have been there and who left lately (the stick scrolls). No separate window any more.
  • The Hexpad widget opens on the watch too: tap it and it grows into the whole dock - keys to press, knobs to drag and the page you are on.

Volume in VR with Virtual Desktop

  • The watch's volume now works with Virtual Desktop's speakers. That device ignores Windows' own volume (the Windows slider does nothing there either), so the watch sets the volume of every app playing on it instead - one level for all of them, and an app that starts playing later gets it too.
  • The Microphone widget works with Virtual Desktop's microphone.
