Server Plugin

Server Plugin

JustQuests also comes as a plugin for Spigot, Paper and Purpur. Players join with a normal vanilla client and install nothing.

Installation

Server version Jar Java
1.19 – 1.20.6 JustQuests-plugin-1.19-<version>.jar 17 or newer
1.21 – 1.21.11 JustQuests-plugin-1.21-<version>.jar 21 or newer
26.1 – 26.3 JustQuests-plugin-26.1-<version>.jar 25
  1. Put the jar for your server version into the plugins folder and start the server. A jar for another range says so in the console.
  2. New players get a quest book. They right-click it, or type /quest, /quests or /jq. /quest book gives a new one.

What is the same as the mod

The 25 built-in quests, the quest format, all objective and reward types, claiming and reward choices, prerequisites, repeatable quests, team quests, the commands, the permission nodes and the five languages. Datapack quests in the world's datapacks folder work unchanged.

What is different

  • The quest book is a chest menu. The start page has your stats, the quests by status and by category. A click opens a quest with its goals, rewards and the Accept, Abandon or Claim button. A reward choice is picked by clicking the option. Shift-click in a list accepts a quest right away.
  • The tracker is a boss bar with the pinned quest, or the first active one, and its progress. Pin a quest on its page or with /quest track <id>. /quest bossbar or the button on the start page hides it for you.
  • Progress shows above the hotbar, for example "Mine 16x Stone (12/16)".

The server generator

The plugin has the quest generator too, built out for servers. Everything is set in the generator: section of config.yml.

  • The board (first come, first served) grows with the server: baseQuests plus one quest per perPlayers players who played in the last 7 days, up to maxQuests.
  • Personal quests: every player gets their own quests each day (3 by default), which only they see. They follow the player's own progress, so Nether quests only come once they have been to the Nether.
  • Weekly quests: harder, longer quests for everyone, new each week. Each player can do each one once. They have valuable loot on top.
  • Server goal: one goal per week that everyone works on together, for example "mine 1,000 copper ore", sized by the players of the last 7 days. 25, 50, 75 and 100 % are announced in chat, and everyone who helped gets the same reward, even if they are offline at the end. /quest goal shows how far it is.

Rewards of generated quests:

  • A choice of up to three rewards of about the same value.
  • A lucky bonus now and then, from a list in config.yml.
  • A personal streak, which pays up to 50 % more for days in a row with a personal quest done.
  • A reward multiplier.
  • Money through an economy plugin, when you set generator.rewards.money.command, for example eco give {player} {amount}.

Your own quests can pay money too:

{ "type": "justquests:money", "amount": 25 }

Announcements

Everyone online hears about a new board, new weekly quests and a new server goal, and a click on the message opens the quest book. When the server goal is reached, harmless fireworks go up around every player. Each of these is a switch in the announcements: section.

Quest givers

Look at a villager, any mob or an armor stand and type /quest npc set [name]. & colour codes work in the name. From then on, a right-click on it opens the quest book instead of trading. It stands still, stays silent, can't be hurt and never despawns. /quest npc remove makes it ordinary again.

For Citizens NPCs, give them the command quest with Citizens' own /npc command add, run as the player.

PlaceholderAPI

With PlaceholderAPI on the server, scoreboards, tab lists and chat plugins can show:

Placeholder Shows
%justquests_completed% Quests the player has completed, as on the leaderboard
%justquests_active% Active quests
%justquests_claimable% Rewards waiting
%justquests_available% Quests to take now
%justquests_rank% The player's place on the leaderboard
%justquests_tracked% The quest in the boss bar
%justquests_tracked_progress% Its progress, for example "12/32"
%justquests_streak% Days in a row with a personal quest done
%justquests_goal% The server goal
%justquests_goal_progress% Its progress, for example "640/1000"
%justquests_goal_percent% Its progress in percent, for example "64"
%justquests_goal_left% Time left, for example "3d 4h"
%justquests_goal_yours% The player's part

Files

In plugins/JustQuests/:

File What it is
config.yml The settings, with the same names as the mod's settings.json, plus the quest book and boss bar options
custom-quests.json Your own quests in the mod's format. Reloads by itself when saved.
quests/ Your own quests, one per file. quests/my_quest.json becomes justquests:my_quest. In a sub-folder, the folder is the category.
players/<uuid>.json Each player's progress
generator/ The generator's state: board, personal and weekly quests, server goal

Moving a world from the mod to a plugin server

On its first start, the plugin takes over the progress (<world>/justquests/progress.json), the custom quests and the generator's board of the main world. A world played with the mod keeps its quests on the server.
