v0.8.14 - Fix: Export now honors content width setting

@ExactDoug ExactDoug released this 06 Mar 06:14

Bug Fix

HTML export now respects content width setting

Previously, exporting to HTML ignored both the per-document maxwidth and the global Default Content Width setting. The exported HTML would always use pandoc's narrow default width.

Now, when exporting to HTML:

  • Per-document maxwidth (from metadata editor or YAML frontmatter) is passed to pandoc as --metadata maxwidth=...
  • If no per-document value is set, the global default from View > Default Content Width is used
  • The maxwidth variable is supported by pandoc's default HTML template

v0.8.13 - Global Default Content Width & Improved UI

@ExactDoug ExactDoug released this 06 Mar 04:14

What's New

Global Default Content Width

Set a default content width for all documents via View > Default Content Width in the app menu. Choose from:

  • Default (36em)
  • Medium (48em)
  • Wide (60em)
  • Extra Wide (80em)
  • Full Width

This setting persists across sessions and applies to editor, preview, and HTML export. Per-document overrides still work via the metadata editor.

Improved Content Width UI

  • The Content width field in the metadata editor (Layout section) now uses a dropdown with human-readable labels instead of raw CSS values
  • Hover over the "Content width" label for a tooltip explaining the options
  • "Full Width" fills the available space and auto-narrows in split mode

Assets

  • PanWriter Setup 0.8.13.exe — Windows installer (x64 + arm64)
  • latest.yml — Auto-update manifest for electron-updater

v0.8.12 - Configurable Content Width with UI

@ExactDoug ExactDoug released this 06 Mar 03:46

What's New

Configurable Content Width

Control the max content width for editor, preview, and HTML export via the Content width field in the metadata editor (toolbar button), or via maxwidth in YAML frontmatter.

Examples:

  • 48em, 60em, 80em — specific widths
  • 100% — fill available space (auto-narrows in split mode)
  • none — no constraint at all

When not specified, defaults remain unchanged (40em editor, 36em preview).

UI

  • New Content width field in the Layout section of the document metadata editor

Assets

  • PanWriter Setup 0.8.12.exe — Windows installer (x64 + arm64)
  • latest.yml — Auto-update manifest for electron-updater

v0.8.11 - Configurable Content Width

Choose a tag to compare

@ExactDoug ExactDoug released this 05 Mar 23:18

What's New

Configurable Content Width

You can now control the max content width for the editor, preview, and HTML export via the maxwidth YAML frontmatter variable.

Usage — add to your document's YAML frontmatter:

---
maxwidth: 60em       # specific width
# or
maxwidth: 100% # fill available space (auto-narrows in split mode)
# or
maxwidth: none # no constraint at all
---

When not specified, defaults remain unchanged (40em editor, 36em preview).

For HTML export, pandoc's default template supports the maxwidth variable natively.

Assets

  • PanWriter Setup 0.8.11.exe — Windows installer (x64 + arm64)
  • latest.yml — Auto-update manifest for electron-updater

Changes

  • Fix: Disable dollar-delimited math by default in pandoc export — dollar signs ($100) are now treated as literal text during .docx/.pdf export instead of being interpreted as LaTeX math
  • Users can opt back in per-document with tex-math-dollars: true in YAML frontmatter
  • Updated MANUAL.md with new default behavior
