Tidal 0.1.5
Tidal now keeps itself up to date.
Download Tidal-win-Setup.exe below (or the portable zip). It installs just for you, with no admin rights, and adds Tidal to the Start menu. Settings from earlier versions carry over. This is the last version you need to download by hand.
What's new in 0.1.5
- Automatic updates: Tidal checks for a new version a minute after it starts and every few hours, downloads it in the background, and shows Update ready in its popup. Click Restart to install it now, or it installs the next time Tidal quits.
- Settings › General shows the update status, with Check now and a switch to turn automatic updates off.
- Fixed: start with Windows is now turned on during installation itself, so it also works for silent installs.
Good to know
- The only thing Tidal asks the internet is whether GitHub has a newer version; turning automatic updates off stops that too.
- Requires 64-bit Windows 10 (2004 or later) or Windows 11.
- This preview isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
Tidal 0.1.4
Tidal now starts with Windows.
Download Tidal-win-Setup.exe below (or the portable zip). It installs just for you, with no admin rights, and adds Tidal to the Start menu. Settings from earlier versions carry over.
What's new in 0.1.4
- Start with Windows: Tidal starts in the tray when you sign in, without opening the popup, so shortcuts, adaptive brightness and app presets work right away. It's on after installing; turn it off in the new General tab in Settings. Uninstalling removes it.
- If Tidal is turned off in Windows' Startup apps (Settings or Task Manager), the General tab tells you, and turning it on there turns it back on.
- The General tab also shows the version and where your settings file is.
Good to know
- Requires 64-bit Windows 10 (2004 or later) or Windows 11.
- This preview isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
Tidal 0.1.3
App presets come to Tidal: give an app its own brightness.
Download Tidal-win-Setup.exe below (or the portable zip). It installs just for you, with no admin rights, and adds Tidal to the Start menu. Settings from earlier versions carry over.
What's new in 0.1.3
- App presets: a new Apps tab in Settings. Add an app from the ones you have open (or browse for a program) and pick its brightness. While that app is in front, the display showing it switches to that brightness, and it goes back when you switch to something else. With Link all on, every display follows.
- Adaptive brightness waits on that display while the app is in front. Opening Tidal, the taskbar or the Start menu doesn't count as switching away.
- The tray popup shows which app's preset is setting a display's brightness.
- Fixed: Settings didn't fit on small or highly scaled screens (such as 1366x768, or 1080p at 150%); it now shrinks to fit.
Good to know
- Requires 64-bit Windows 10 (2004 or later) or Windows 11.
- This preview isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
Coming next
Start with Windows.
Tidal 0.1.2
Software dimming comes to Tidal.
Download Tidal-win-Setup.exe below (or the portable zip). It installs just for you, with no admin rights, and adds Tidal to the Start menu. Settings from earlier versions carry over.
What's new in 0.1.2
- Dim below 0: turn it on for a display in Settings, and the slider and shortcuts keep going past its lowest brightness, down to -50, by darkening the picture in software. Shortcuts pause at 0 on the way down, so you don't slip into it by accident.
- Monitors without DDC/CI (and other displays Tidal can't control) now get a brightness slider too, using the same software dimming, instead of "No hardware control".
- The dimming is left out of screenshots and screen sharing, and it disappears if Tidal closes, so a screen can never get stuck dark.
Good to know
- Software dimming darkens the picture, not the backlight, so it doesn't save power. The Windows Start menu and other system pop-ups aren't dimmed.
- Requires 64-bit Windows 10 (2004 or later) or Windows 11.
- This preview isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
Coming next
Per-app brightness presets, and start with Windows.
Tidal 0.1.1
A new look for Tidal, and a crash fix.
Download Tidal-win-Setup.exe below (or the portable zip). It installs just for you, with no admin rights, and adds Tidal to the Start menu. Settings from 0.1.0 carry over.
What's new in 0.1.1
- Redesigned in black and white: the tray popup, Settings and the on-screen level now use a clean monochrome style, with the Geist and Geist Mono fonts built in. Light and dark mode both follow Windows.
- New app icon to match.
- Fixed: Tidal could crash while closing, or when displays were re-detected, if a monitor read was still waiting in line.
Good to know
- Requires 64-bit Windows 10 (2004 or later) or Windows 11.
- This preview isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
- If a monitor doesn't respond, turn on DDC/CI in its on-screen menu or connect it without a dock or adapter.
Coming next
Software dimming (below 0% and for monitors without DDC/CI), per-app presets, and start with Windows.
