Beta (00cdc15)
Beta: rebuilt on every change to main (00cdc15). Newer than the latest release, less tested.
No game data is included: you need your own MX Unleashed (USA) (SLUS-20767) ISO. Linux: unpack, run ./openmx your.iso (or drop the ISO on it) once, ./openmx after. Windows: unzip, drop the ISO on openmx.exe once, start it after.
Beta in the browser: https://beta.openmx.dev/
Every build here runs the native sim (the host's plain floats: faster, not bit-exact with the PS2). It plays online only with other native builds, and a tape recorded on an exact build warns when played.
openMX 0.12.0
openMX is MX Unleashed (PS2, 2004) rewritten from scratch: the original's physics, tricks and timing, proved
tick for tick, on today's screens at any resolution, with split screen, online play and mods.

Every download above runs the native sim: the original's physics on your machine's plain floats, faster
than the PS2's arithmetic and not bit-for-bit with it;
online, it meets every other native build of 0.12.0. (The exact, PS2-arithmetic build is tools/build.sh --exact-sim.)
What you need
Your own disc image of MX Unleashed (USA, SLUS-20767). No game data is included, and the game reads
your ISO on your own machine: nothing is uploaded.
New in 0.12.0
- The Garage has a Fliers tab: pick your plane and helicopter from every installed machine pack (MX Unleashed's own, and MX vs. ATV's Pitts, Spitfire, Kiowa and Little Bird with the fliers pack), with no Fliers setting to turn on. Your old Fliers and Flier Skin settings carry over. Previews, skin buttons and the mid-ride picker come next.
- The pilot now sits in the Spitfire's and the Little Bird's seat instead of poking out underneath.
- MX vs. ATV's biplane wrecks and recovers as in that game.
- Phones and tablets: the speedometer sits top right, right under the FPS counter (or in its place when Show FPS is off).
- Phones and tablets: the Resume Ride offer is gone.
- Phones and tablets: a controller you connect always takes over player 1 from the touch pad, mid-ride too.
- Taking a player's controller away on the Controllers screen now takes that player out of the ride.

- New machines: MX vs. ATV Unleashed's biplane and Kiowa. Turn them on in Settings → Ride: set Fliers to MX vs. ATV and pick one of the four looks under Flier Skin (skins 1–2 are the familiar shape, 3–4 a second model with its own handling). The garage and the pause menu's Switch To Machine then give you that game's own planes and helicopters, flown with its own physics. They need your own copy of MX vs. ATV Unleashed (PS2): build the fliers pack from it with openmx-mods'
import-atv fliersand put it in the game'smods/machines/folder (with Read the Mods Folder on). Off by default, and offline only: online rides and rooms still fly MX Unleashed's - Android: openMX now comes as an Android app (Android 8+,
openmx-android.apk). Install it, pick your ISO on first start, and play with touch controls or a controller; the game offers its own updates - On phones and in the browser with the touch controls, the speedometer and preload meter now sit at the top right, out of your thumbs' way
- Phones hold the big combined worlds with far less memory, and on the iPhone a world that was loading while you switched apps now finishes its ground when you come back instead of leaving holes
- MX World's first ride builds about nine times faster (about 20 seconds instead of 3 minutes)
- The combined Free Ride and Nationals worlds no longer have flat empty patches between maps, and a wrapped world's seam is as narrow as the joins between its maps
- On the iPhone: the game plays with the ring/silent switch on and alongside other apps' music, its sound comes back after a call or a trip to the home screen, it no longer burns battery while in the background, and a controller keeps its seat after you switch apps
- Trick packs' extra tricks now go on the simplest buttons first (Cross, Square, then with R1)
- Delete Preset on Game Modifiers and Cameras now asks before deleting
- Joining a LAN room by its code no longer sometimes misses the host
- Uploading a big mod to the mod store no longer reads the whole file into memory first
- On the Controllers screen you can now drag a controller's card with the mouse onto another seat to move it there, or swap it with the controller already on it.
- On the iPhone, the menu and ride hints now show PlayStation buttons (✕ ○ □ △) while you play on the on-screen touch controls, as the browser's already did
- Mod store downloads and uploads now show in a bar at the top of every menu screen, and when they finish you are asked to reload the new mods (now, later with Select on Reload Mods, or when you press Play)
- With a controller plugged in on desktop, in the browser or on the iPhone, the menu hints now show that controller's buttons once you use it, instead of the keyboard's keys
- On the iPhone, a swipe up from the bottom of the screen during a ride or in the menus no longer leaves the game straight away: the first swipe only brings up the home bar, and a second one leaves

- Big worlds load far faster and use less memory. "Every game: one world" starts riding in about 4 seconds instead of 30, and needs about 1.9 GB instead of 2.7 GB; the other combined worlds load about four times faster. Far-off ground is drawn at lower detail and streams in as you ride, so a Steam Deck no longer runs out of memory on them
- Track and world pictures in the track pick are made once and kept, instead of being re-shot in the background (which could take a big world's worth of memory)
- Fog is now one slider, from the original's distance out to the whole map, showing how far you can see
- Settings with three or more choices open a dropdown list
- A Button Icons setting (Auto by default) picks which controller's button pictures the game shows
- The track pick has a Favourites filter in place of Wrecks, and the Worlds filter now lists MX Unleashed's own disc worlds
- Game Modifiers by machine: pick Bike, Biplane, Kiowa, Cars or World and see only that machine's settings; online, the cars' modifiers reach every player's cars
- A new Untamed handling choice rides the bike with MX vs. ATV Untamed's tuning, backflip and 360s
- Holding R1 with Cross or Square now does the plain trick when there's no R1 version of it, instead of nothing
- Driven cars bump into the riders' bikes in split screen and online, and a crashed rider's bike gets hit by planes flown into it
- Knocking props about makes their collision sounds, as in the original
- A reset (L1+R1 or a wreck's put-back) shows the rider at the new spot at once, camera and all
- The biplane camera keeps the plane in view through a climb or a loop
- The splash screen's button hint no longer floats above the bottom of the screen

- Fixed: the game crashed when a second player joined (seen on the Steam Deck). Player 2 can now plug in a pad mid-ride, press Cross or Start, and go straight to split screen; a join that can't be set up now says why in the pause menu instead of closing the game
- A new Tricks page in the pause menu lists every trick your ride has, with its buttons and points, and your own rider performs the one you pick live
- The Kiowa helicopter crashes as the original's does, its pilot sits and leans as in the original, and a rotor strike throws its blades, which are drawn and land on the ground
- Driven cars lay tire tracks, keep the camera you start them on, appear on the Camera page and have the original's Lookback Cam
- Online, every car works for both players (buggy, baja and monster truck, both players driving at once), each followed by its own camera
- The rider no longer leans twice as far as they should in hard turns
- A braked bike next to the train is no longer shoved by it
- A crashed bike wakes and knocks the company truck as in the original, and planes flown together in split screen or online knock props
- Bailing out of a trick into a wreck starts the fall from the trick's pose, as the original does
- Browser: the game runs on WebGL2 in Firefox, picking the disc no longer waits on Firefox's storage prompt, mod tracks show their pictures, and the mod store no longer hides a mod for an hour after one failed download

Every download above runs the native sim: the original's physics on your machine's plain floats, faster
than the PS2's arithmetic and not bit-for-bit with it;

New in 0.10.1
- Smoother split screen. Two players riding no longer rebuild the world around each bike every tick, the rider's body costs a fifth less, and the game steps on its own thread beside the picture, so a split-screen frame costs the slower of the two instead of both together
- Cars you drive are drawn, on every track and world, with their suspension, steering and spinning tires; each has its own chase camera, its own engine sound and its own dust, dirt and exhaust
- Cars work online: a player can switch into a buggy, monster truck or baja in an online game
- Trick packs stack: each installed pack has its own On/Off switch under Settings > Ride, and Cross and Square combine with the other trick buttons as the original's do
- The High preset keeps a far fog (eight times the original's) instead of drawing the whole map; Whole Map is still a Draw Distance choice
- The version line and the menu's corner just say the version and build
- A trick lets the rider's body go and takes it back on the original's tick, and a restart fades from the rider as drawn
- The bike fades into a trick that follows another as the original's does
- A truck that drives into a parked plane, a wreck or a prop wakes and is knocked about as in the original; a struck truck's cab is thrown as the original throws it
- A fallen rider's body meets knockable props at rest, the props see the wreck bike and the wreck bike's tumble is thrown by a ball's hit
- MX vs. ATV handling: the wreck clock and put-back follow MX vs. ATV's
- Online seats that start in the biplane stand where the offline plane does
- A plane flown into the ground puffs dust where it hits again

Every download above runs the native sim: the original's physics on your machine's plain floats, faster

New in 0.10.0
- The native sim. Every download now runs the original's physics on your machine's plain floats instead of copying the PS2's arithmetic: about twice as fast, so split screen on a Steam Deck holds 60 fps. It is no longer bit-for-bit with the original (rides feel the same, but can part by a hair over time). Online games meet only other native builds of the same version, not 0.9.x. A recorded tape now names its sim; tapes from older versions still play, but may drift from what was recorded. The menu's corner and
--versionsay "native sim" - The splash shows a New version notice with its Update, Download or Refresh button, and the build's version (or commit) small in its corner; the website's header shows it too
- The Kiowa helicopter: park it, switch into it, fly it and wreck it, with its engine, rotor wash and wreck sounds
- The rider is drawn from the riding ragdoll, with the original's give in the body
- Knockable props (free06's eyeballs, free09's balls) are knocked by a fallen rider, by the biplane and by each other; the biplanes in split screen and online hit each other
- Trucks you hit move as physical bodies, and a bike can ride on top of them
- Flips score as the original's again (the flip-at-the-start scoring is gone)
- Worlds can be downloaded from the mod store, on the desktop and in the browser, which now sees every mod the store installed; an MX World load can be cancelled
- The Garage's bike, paint and class pickers answer at once, one step per press
- MX vs. ATV handling works online: the room carries the Handling setting
- Under World Sky Global each map keeps its own sunlight
- Automatic render scale judges by the graphics card's own time, so it no longer drops and stays low
- Browser: pads the browser does not map keep their d-pad and triggers
