Copper Rails

Copper rails are a new rail family with tiered max speeds tied to oxidation. They are registered in the minecraft:rails block tag so vanilla rails connect to them and minecarts ride them normally.

The tier cap is per-rail: a cart rolling from an Unaffected stretch onto an Oxidized stretch will be capped to 5 blocks/sec only while on that segment.

Modifiers

• In water, the tier cap is halved.
• On a powered rail, non-furnace minecarts are forced back to 8 blocks/sec (the vanilla cap).
• Momentum floor: the effective cap is max(tierCap, currentHorizontalSpeed * 0.9). A single lower-tier rail mid-route does not immediately crash the speed, the train keeps 90% of its momentum for one tick at a time.

Shaped recipe, yields 12 Copper Rails:

Oxidation

Copper rails weather naturally via random ticks, same mechanic as vanilla copper blocks. Progression:

Copper Rail -> Exposed Copper Rail -> Weathered Copper Rail -> Oxidized Copper Rail

Oxidized is the final stage and does not degrade further. Neighbouring oxidized copper speeds up the process. Isolated rails oxidize very slowly.

Waxing

Shapeless recipe, yields 8 Waxed Copper Rails of the matching tier:

• 1 Honeycomb
• 8 Copper Rails (of any single tier)

Waxed rails do not oxidize and appear identical to their unwaxed counterpart. They keep their tier indefinitely.

Scraping

An axe on an oxidized rail removes one tier of oxidation. An axe on a waxed rail removes the wax, making it oxidize again.

Eight blocks total, four unwaxed (oxidize) and four waxed (static).

Design Note

Copper rails raise the speed ceiling but do not actively accelerate carts. Pair them with a powered rail kick, a Furnace Minecart, or a downhill slope to actually reach the tier cap.
