If you're newer to Minecraft, modifying games, or you are stuck somewhere, this is the page for you!
Note
- "Mod" refers to a modification of a game, in this context a bundled
.jarfile
Minecraft is one of the most owned and played games in the world, owned by Mojang/Microsoft, it's the game Showbiz modifies and runs on.
You can think of Minecraft as half a game, half a game engine. We use it as a base rather than creating our own from scratch as Minecraft already has thousands of other community-made modifications, such as the Create Mod which adds trains and moving contraptions into the game, and Showbiz being part of this platform allows users to mix and match different features and modifications. For instance, with both Create and Showbiz installed, you could have a Rock-afire Explosion running on a moving train!
Showbiz is specifically built on the Java Edition (JE) of Minecraft, as Bedrock heavily encourages mods to be purchasable and we want to keep this project to remain free. Java Edition is also generally more community-focused and has higher quality mods.
The first step is to buy Minecraft, or ask a family member or friend if you can use their account! Chances are, a large amount of the people you can ask likely already own the game
Then, to run Showbiz, you generally need a launcher that can insert mods into the game.
We personally recommend the Modrinth launcher as it's the easiest to use, especially as Showbiz is already hosted on Modrinth.
You can then log in, then click the green "Create instance" button in the top right, search for "Showbiz", and select it.
Modrinth should slowly set up everything for you, then you can hit play!
We don't include any show files with the mod for copyright and file size reasons, but you can either record your own shows inside Showbiz using audio from your favourite song, or look around the internet to find files ending in *shw (rshw, wp5shw, etc)
You can find a lot of shows when searching on archive.org
Just note that shows you might find may be private. If you find a show file, you are generally advised not to pass it around between friends or random people unless you know that the show is public. Similarly, if a friend sends you a show file, you are generally advised not to share it around with others or post it.
Shows in the animatronics community are gatekept for a number of different reasons.
- Official Rock-afire shows for instance are supposed to stay with Creative Engineering for the most part as a form of IP protection. As I understand it you might be able to purchase a license for them.
- Being in possession of official Chuck E Cheese data can get you sued to death
- Indie show programmers may generally just not want their shows out in the public
