Feature Release

New features and changes:

  • User Interface

    Focus Point Viewer

    • Interactively straighten the current image #385.
Enables you to level the image currently displayed in the Focus Point window. You have visual control of the result and the option to undo. This is the interactive version of the 'Straightening Images' batch process introduced in V3.3. The same options and restrictions (e.g. supported cameras) apply.
See user manual for a description of the new Straightening Control.
    • Focus Point Viewer performance control #389
Reduce long wait times when opening the plugin window on Windows.
See user manual for details about performance and how to apply this feature to your setup.
    • Remove "Loading Data - Calculating Focus Point" progress dialog #380
The previous dialog will be replaced by a lightweight and configurable progress indicator which is part of #389
    • '3XL' plugin window size, which corresponds to 90% of the screen size used for the photo view.

    Metadata Viewer

    • Include Group information #381
Adds a third column to the Metadata Viewer to reflect the metadata group (e.g. IFD0, ExifIFDm XMP, Maker Notes) to which a tag belongs. See user manual for a description and an illustrated example of use of Metadata Viewer.
  • Bugfixes

    • Windows: Focus Point display shows white space instead of the photo #254
  • Camera Support

  • Other

    • Focus Info missing for DNG files converted from Canon CR3 #308
This issue will also be resolved in previous versions of the plugin as soon as Lightroom Classic is updated to version 15.4.

See README for an overview of the plugin functionality.

See User Manual for more detailed information.

Curious about what's next?

In parallel to this public release, there is also a pre-release of Version 4. With this, you have the opportunity not only to get an early look at the future of Focus Points, but also to actively help shape its development.

You don't need to replace your existing installation. Version 3.4 and Version 4 PRE can coexist in Lightroom, making it easy to switch between them whenever you like.

Version 4 is the largest update since the project was revived. Second Screen changes the way you use the plugin by keeping it available while you continue editing in Lightroom. It also adds multiple display modes and brings the high-performance Direct View renderer to Windows, making the plugin significantly faster and more responsive.

Unlike previous releases, Version 4 is planned to undergo a longer pre-release phase. The new workflow affects nearly every aspect of using the plugin, so I'd really appreciate long-term feedback from real-world use to help refine the experience.

Some remaining Lightroom SDK issues are outside the plugin's control and currently require Adobe's attention. If these features matter to you, your vote on the corresponding bug reports really helps increase their visibility.

If you'd like an early look at what's coming next, I'd love for you to try Version 4 PRE and join the beta program. Your feedback will help shape the final release!
