SDLC_Analyze
SDLC progress: 0 Start Here → 1 Analyze → 2 Design → 3 Construct → 4 Test → 5 Submit
During the Analyze phase, your goal is to understand what the program must do before you begin planning or writing code.
You will review the program requirements, expected input and output, and acceptance test cases. You will record your understanding in the Software Development Worksheet (SDW). These working notes will help you during the Design and Construct phases.
This phase starts on one ungraded deliverable.
You will use the 2-3_worksheet.md Software Development Worksheet as working notes throughout the Analyze and Design phases. Submit the SDW in D2L Brightspace to "show your work" on your program .
Your Python program, name_age.py, will be the Part A graded deliverable you complete later during the Construct phase.
Use the following provided materials to complete this phase:
-
Software Requirements Specification (SRS) — defines what the
name_ageprogram must do, including its requirements, expected input and output, and acceptance test cases. - Software Development Worksheet (SDW) — provides a place to record your understanding and working notes in your own words.
- Module Two Assignment Guidelines and Rubric — identifies the assignment requirements and how your submitted work will be evaluated.
-
Read the Software Requirements Specification (SRS) from beginning to end.
-
Pay particular attention to:
- What the program must accomplish
- What information the program receives or obtains
- What processing the program performs
- What information the program produces
- The sample input and output
- The acceptance test cases
-
Open the Software Development Worksheet (SDW) and complete the Analyze Phase sections. Record your understanding of the requirements in your own words.
-
Use the SDW to identify:
- The program's purpose
- Inputs, processing, and outputs
- Selected functional requirements
- Important constraints
- Special or edge cases
-
Compare your notes with the SRS. Correct anything that does not match the requirements before continuing.
-
Complete the Analyze Checkpoint in the SDW before moving to the Design phase.
IDE Features Reflection reminder: As you work, notice how Markdown Preview helps you read formatted README, SRS, and SDW files inside VS Code. Consider whether this feature makes technical documents easier to read or use. This experience may be useful later when you complete the separate IDE Features Reflection.
Before continuing, make sure:
- I read the complete SRS.
- I can explain in my own words what the program must accomplish.
- I identified the required inputs, processing, and outputs.
- I reviewed the sample input and output and acceptance test cases.
- I completed the Analyze Phase sections of the SDW.
- I identified important constraints and edge cases.
- I did not add requirements that are not stated in the SRS.
- I completed the Analyze Checkpoint in the SDW.
If you have difficulty completing this phase:
- Review the SRS first. It is the primary source for what the program must do.
- See the Module Two Assignment Wiki for supplemental explanations and examples.
- Use GitHub Discussions for questions about using the repository.
- Use GitHub Issues to report a technical problem with the provided repository files or tools.
- Contact your instructor through D2L Brightspace for questions about assignment requirements, grading, or feedback.
When you have completed the Analyze phase and its SDW checkpoint, continue to the Design phase.
