Extraction from Text Demo Instructions

A technical overview of the approach behind the functionalities in demo can be found here. An understanding of the code/services powering the demo can be found here.
Demo Instructions
-
Log in to the Amazon instance.
-
Navigate to
/home/ubuntu/DARPA-ASKE/git/DARPA-ASKE-TA1/ModelsFromText/text-extraction-demo/and openindex.htmlin a Firefox browser. -
The user can either enter text in the text-area box and click Process Text in Box button or click on a button associated with one of the pre-populated example pages (e.g. Speed of Sound).
-
Text can also be copied from text files under
/home/ubuntu/DARPA-ASKE/git/DARPA-ASKE-TA1/JavaCodeAndTextFiles/. -
We recommend the user to begin by copying the following text in the text-area to get a better understanding of the capabilities:
An analysis based on conservation of mass and momentum shows that the square of the speed of sound a^2 is equal to the the gas constant R times the temperature T times the ratio of. specific heats gamma. The definition is a^2 = R * T * gamma. -
Javascript client code sends the example page id or the entered text to the text2triples service (link accessible in the AWS instance only). The backend service identifies scientific concepts and equations, links them to appropriate concepts in Wikidata, generates appropriate triples and returns the results to the client.
-
The client generates a simplified visual representation from the triples associated with the extracted equation. It also highlights all the extracted concepts and equations. Note, currently, a visualization is generated only for the extracted equations.
-
An explanation of the generated visualization is provided here. If you click the "Speed of Sound" button after running the sample text through the demo, you can read about how the two equations are visually compared at the string and semantic level here.
Troubleshooting
-
Please ensure the
Viz (show/hide)div is expanded while submitting a new query. -
If the visualization is not showing up for identified equations, then please try refreshing the page and running it again.
-
Firefox browser not opening: If multiple DARPA users have logged in at the same time, only one user can access the browser process at a time. Ensure no other user is accessing the browser.
-
The demo instructions assumes the text-to-triple service is running. This can be verified by accessing its API documentation page: http://localhost:4200/darpa/aske/ui/. If the page does not load, the services can be started by following instructions:
- Navigate to
/home/ubuntu/DARPA-ASKE/git/DARPA-ASKE-TA1/ModelsFromText/text-to-triples-services/ - Run command
source activate aske-ta1 - Run command
python app.py
