In-editor Isaac launcher + log awareness
This update introduces features meant to accelerate development and test cycle, here is a quick glance on what is new:
- Quick Isaac launch command using f6 (the key can be rebound in your keymap.cson, if you modify the
Atom-boilua:launch-gamecommand). - When the game is launched, Atom-boilua starts listening the the isaac
log.txtfile and reacts to errors thrown in the folder.- If an error occurs, it will focus on the editor, at the file where the error occurred, at the correct line.
- This is only true if the mod that has thrown the error is the same as the one you currently are working on. Otherwise, the editor do NOT take focus, you are only given the option to do so.
- You can add custom commands to run when launching the game. For example, I use this to launch beside the game a windows showing the content of the
log.txt.
Mod Creator
This update adds the mod creator dialog. You can access it with the Atom-boilua:open-mod-creator command in the command palette, or in the context menu, under 'Create new BoI mod'.
With that menu, you can quickly create basic skeletons to start making your mod on a couple clicks. The skeleton includes xml files with mini-tutorials on what the file does.
Delete update.it when saving files
When modding (especially with such lackluster API doc), we tend to make mistakes when programming. Those mistakes translates to failures (aka: runtime errors) when testing the mod live as you program it. The game then marks your mod as outdated by writing a little update.it file in your mod folder.
The issue here, is that when you change your code or the content of your mod, the game still thinks the mod is out of date, even though the mod files are more recent than the update.it file. Deleting the update.it exactly when you save a file in your mod folder (aka: when you update it), will give to Isaac the proper expected behavior.
v1.2.1
Documentation Links & snippets
Note:
I made a new branch of the autocomplete-lua package. That branch includes a huge improvement in the way identifiers are given a type. Here is an exemple. A pull request has been made, but it might take time to integrate the changes upstream. You can follow this guide to benefits from the changes immediately.
Actual release notes:
If you disable "Override lower priority providers" in autocomplete-lua, you'll get Afterbirth modding specific snippets when working in the Isaac mod folder. Currently, there is only two snippets.
The scraper also has been modified to handle links. You'll now get a little More.. link when typing a class or enumerator name. This will link you to the moddingofisaac.com/doc/ afterbirth documentation.
This is temporary. Atom's autocomplete-plus provider currently cannot link to local files. Once this gets fixed I'll patch it so it only links to your locally stored files.
Proper Autocompletion behavior
The autocompletion now properly includes class constructors. variables created with a class constructor inherit from the type of their class, and proper suggestion is given when trying to access methods or attributes of the instance.
