Downloading themes
Odyssey Launcher can get themes for you, keep them up to date and remove them, without leaving the launcher, like ES-DE's theme downloader. The themes come from a list the launcher's author keeps, GeekRhapsody/odyssey-themes, and each one is tested before it's added. After that, each theme's updates come straight from its author.
Press Menu on a controller (or Escape on the keyboard) on the systems screen, then choose Download themes under Look.
The list from last time shows straight away, and the launcher then checks for new themes and updates. That's the only time it goes online for themes: never when it starts. Without a network connection you see the list from last time, with a line saying it couldn't be brought up to date.
Each theme shows its first screenshot, its name, who made it, what you have of it, and what A does:
| On the right | What it means | A |
|---|---|---|
| Get | You don't have it (New after its name if it was just added) | Downloads it, then offers to use it |
| Installed | You have it | Checks for an update, and gets it if there is one |
| In use | It's the theme you're using | The same; an update to it is loaded straight away |
| Replace | A theme of yours with the same folder name is in the way, or a download was interrupted | Asks first, then keeps a copy of what was there and downloads it |
| Needs x.y.z | It needs a newer version of the launcher | Says so: update the launcher first |
A theme shown faded is leaving the list soon. If the launcher is older than the latest release, a line at the top says so, as some themes may need it.
The other buttons:
- X: the theme's details: its description, version, what it brings (system cards, game templates, its own menus, videos), where it comes from, the folder it's in, and its screenshots. A on a screenshot shows it full screen; left and right go through them.
- Y: removes it, after asking. The theme you're using can't be removed: choose another under Theme first.
- B: back. A download carries on with its progress card at the top right; you can cancel it from the settings' Library section.
One theme downloads at a time.
Downloaded themes go in the same themes folder as themes you add by hand (Creating themes), each in a folder named after its id, and they're chosen under Theme like any other:
| Install | Themes folder |
|---|---|
| Normal | %APPDATA%\OdysseyLauncher\themes\<id>\ |
| Portable |
userdata\themes\<id>\, next to the executable |
Each one is a git clone of the theme's repository (it has a hidden .git folder), which is how updates come down quickly. Other folders the downloader uses:
-
themes-staging, besidethemes: a download in progress. It never shows up as a theme, and it's cleared the next time you open the page. -
theme-backupsin the data folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\OdysseyLauncher\theme-backups\, oruserdata\theme-backups\when portable): what was in a theme's folder when you chose Replace, named after the theme and the time. Delete them when you don't need them.
Files you add to a downloaded theme's folder (your own logo, say) stay when it's updated. If you edit one of its own files, its row says "with changes of your own", and updating it asks first, because your changes would be overwritten. To keep them, copy the theme to a folder with another name and use that.
To get your theme on the list, see Creating themes: Sharing your theme.
