AppTide 0.2.7-beta.1 - Store empty-check fix and visible self-updates

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 15 Oct 12:14

AppTide 0.2.7-beta.1 fixes the misleading Microsoft Store check error and makes updating AppTide easier to find.

  • Fix: the installed Store client returned “No updates found.” but AppTide treated that valid empty result as unreadable output. Recognize the observed response and preserve real failure checks.
  • AppTide checks its own releases when it opens (enabled by default) and when you choose Check for updates.
  • A prominent notice on every page offers Update and restart. The status row also offers a direct AppTide check, without visiting Settings.
  • Wait for active operations before restarting; keep SHA256 verification, package backups and private catalogue/preferences.
  • Includes the broader public catalogue, Steam library and diagnostics from 0.2.6.

Validation: 78 Rust tests passed, formatting/Clippy/release build passed, and the release executable completed a real read-only Store check with zero updates and no error. UI tests cover the update action across every page and both supported window sizes. No third-party apps were installed or removed.

Download the Windows x64 ZIP, extract it, and run AppTide-Beta.exe. Existing users can check in Settings once on older versions, then choose the AppTide update-and-restart notice. Subsequent versions make this accessible from every page.

Portable, MIT-licensed and unsigned. Your inventory and logs stay on your PC.

AppTide 0.2.6-beta.1 - Broader catalogue, Steam library and update diagnostics

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 15 Oct 11:57

AppTide 0.2.6-beta.1 adds a broader app directory, better local detection and a separate Steam library.

  • 19,754 public WinGet/Scoop package records and 2,755 GitHub projects, with offline search and automatic identity/publisher-based associations.
  • Recover missing versions from local executable metadata; keep provenance, reject conflicting results, and stop offering updates already equal to or older than the recovered version.
  • Separate Steam titles, build IDs, disk use and local download state. Open the game or Steam Downloads to manage updates.
  • Track asynchronous Microsoft Store updates as pending and verify them on later checks, without submitting duplicate batches.
  • Explain broken URLs, hash mismatches, failed uninstallers and installer/channel incompatibilities. Activity offers source refresh and reviewed retries with installer prompts.
  • Preserve manual project choices, private history, existing automatic-consent rules and checksum verification.

Validation: 76 Rust tests passed; formatting, Clippy, optimized Windows build, live read-only discovery and native desktop/compact demo captures passed. Three opt-in installer/download tests were not run. No real third-party software was installed or removed during validation. Some vendor downloads and installers still require upstream fixes; AppTide does not bypass hashes or force removal.

Extract the entire Windows x64 ZIP and run AppTide-Beta.exe, or use Settings in an existing beta to check for an AppTide update. The portable beta is unsigned. All previous releases and development history remain available.

AppTide 0.2.5-beta.1 - GitHub installer updates and the AppTide icon

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 13 Oct 10:51

GitHub watches now update compatible installed apps directly in AppTide.

  • Update supported GitHub installers individually or in Update all, with an explicit installer chooser when several Windows assets match.
  • Discover project associations from installed metadata and reviewed product/publisher recipes.
  • Opt into automatic updates for reviewed current-user Meetily and ExifToolGUI installations; unknown installers use interactive setup.
  • Verify release asset ID, SHA256 and size; recheck the target before execution and confirm the installed version afterward. Activity retains provider-aware receipts and failed packages do not abandon unrelated updates.
  • Compare ExifToolGUI installer revisions rather than just the release tag.
  • Use the new teal A/wave icon in the executable, window and taskbar.

Validation: 66 default Rust tests and 25 legacy tests passed, plus explicit live download/hash verification and synthetic installer-launch checks. Formatting, Clippy, optimized build, native desktop/compact previews and a private catalogue-copy scan passed. No existing third-party app was installed or removed during validation; real installer compatibility remains an acceptance-test boundary.

Download the portable Windows x64 ZIP and extract all files. Existing beta users can check for AppTide updates in Settings. Automatic app updates remain off until both global and per-app opt-in; they run only while AppTide is open. Unsupported archives and assets remain release links.

The beta is unsigned. Source, historical releases and checksums are retained. See docs/GITHUB-UPDATES.md for the installer policy and limitations.

AppTide 0.2.4-beta.1 - Richer detection and Microsoft Store updates

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 11 Oct 20:55

AppTide 0.2.4-beta.1 adds richer installed-software metadata and Microsoft Store updates.

  • Friendly Store app names, readable vendors, architecture and metadata source labels.
  • Missing desktop versions/publishers can be recovered from matching local executable resources without launching apps. Existing registry values remain authoritative; conflicting metadata stays unresolved.
  • New Microsoft Store page: check available updates, review and confirm a separate Store-owned bulk update, and inspect local logs and installed-version verification.
  • Fresh Store preflight rejects a changed list. Exit code zero alone is never counted as proof of an update.

Download the Windows x64 ZIP, extract the entire folder, and run AppTide-Beta.exe. Existing AppTide users can use Settings > Check AppTide version to update and restart. Catalogue and history stay in the existing local data folder.

Validation: 55 tests passed, formatting and Clippy passed, optimized Windows build passed, desktop/compact screens inspected, and real read-only inventory/Store checks passed. Actual Store installations were not run during development; this remains a user acceptance check.

Microsoft controls the Store batch and dependencies. AppTide pause preferences do not apply to it, and AppTide cannot cancel it after launch. Save work in Store apps first. Requires the consumer Store CLI already supplied/enabled by Microsoft Store. Unsupported output offers Store Downloads instead. Some results remain unverified where Store names cannot be matched uniquely to local package identities.

See docs/MICROSOFT-STORE.md for behavior, research sources and limitations. No private inventory or diagnostics are included in the release.

AppTide 0.2.3-beta.1 - Continue updates and view logs

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 11 Oct 19:47

AppTide 0.2.3 beta: independent update failures and built-in log access.

This corrects the 0.2.2 behavior that abandoned an update queue after one unavailable vendor download.

  • Record individual failures and continue independent updates. Report aggregate issues at the end without automatically retrying failed apps or substituting unreviewed installers.
  • Still stop for failed verification scans, cancellation, reboot/shared-installer signals and persistence problems.
  • Explain HTTP 404/403 clearly and remove duplicate queue banners.
  • Activity > View local logs opens a built-in, bounded, read-only viewer. No Explorer launch is required. Select a recent file, refresh, or copy the folder path.

Validation: 44 Rust tests passed, including a 34-app queue with HTTP 404 at item four and all 30 remaining items attempted exactly once; scan/reboot/cancellation boundaries; UI Update all confirmation; and a real-file UI log-viewer test. Formatting, Clippy, optimized build and synthetic desktop/compact captures passed locally. Vendor download availability was checked read-only. No unrelated software was updated or removed.

Extract the full ZIP and launch AppTide-Beta.exe, or use the in-app update check. Your private catalogue remains in place. The package is unsigned. An unavailable vendor URL still needs correction upstream; this release prevents one package failure from blocking other apps.

AppTide 0.2.2-beta.1 - Queue fixes and diagnostics

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 11 Oct 19:27

AppTide 0.2.2 beta fixes update-queue feedback and adds private diagnostics.

  • Persistent queue summary: verified, skipped, need-review and not-run counts.
  • Each reviewed app is checked against the refreshed inventory. Stale or changed items are skipped without blocking unaffected updates or changing the approved version.
  • Failed or uncertain installer outcomes still stop the queue, now with the app name, reason, observed versions and remaining count.
  • Activity opens local app event logs, WinGet output and batch diagnostics. Preflight failures are recorded before any installer starts.
  • Application logs rotate at 1 MiB; private catalogues, receipts and inventories are never published.

Validation: 40 Rust tests, including Update all -> confirmation -> three simulated updates through the UI worker, partial batches, duplicate registrations, source failure, installer failure, cancellation, and log rotation. Local Clippy/build and synthetic UI captures are recorded in docs/VALIDATION.md. No unrelated installed software was updated or removed during this fix.

Extract the complete ZIP and run AppTide-Beta.exe, or use the existing beta's Settings > Check AppTide version and update action. The private catalogue is preserved. The package remains unsigned. Historical ambiguous results are not rewritten as successful.

AppTide 0.2.1-beta.1 - Catalogue editor and self-updates

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 10 Oct 19:56

AppTide 0.2.1 beta: maintain your own software catalogue and keep AppTide updated.

  • Add custom tracked apps, maintain manual versions, and save official HTTPS sources, GitHub project URLs and update notes. Entries remain private.
  • Fourteen reviewed product/family recipes plus Steam and Store channel rules. Added 7-Zip, VLC, KeePass and Notepad++ sources.
  • Asynchronous startup checks for AppTide releases, beta-aware ordering, manual checks and a startup-check opt-out.
  • Update AppTide and restart: bounded GitHub downloads, SHA-256 verification, exact archive entries, old-package backups, rollback on replacement failure, and relaunch with the same catalogue.
  • Documented release/version history; previous releases and assets are preserved.

Validation: 32 default Rust tests passed, plus the opt-in real release-download check. Clippy, optimized Windows build and native UI captures passed. A disposable beta.2 demo was closed, replaced with 0.2.1 and relaunched; the executable hash matched and a private catalogue sentinel remained unchanged. Locked-file rollback was also tested. Download verification and restart handoff were exercised separately; a future-version update from the production banner remains unexercised.

Extract the ZIP and run AppTide-Beta.exe. Existing beta catalogues are preserved. The package is unsigned. Automatic third-party updates still require global and per-app opt-in; custom vendor/GitHub entries are guidance and release watches, not automatic arbitrary installers. No unrelated installed software was updated or removed during testing.

AppTide 0.2.0-beta.2 - Software catalogue

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 10 Oct 19:46

Native Rust beta with a bundled structured software catalogue.

  • Ten reviewed product/family recipes plus Steam and Store channel detection.
  • Private version sightings, retained history, operation outcomes and source associations.
  • Official update instructions and GitHub stable-release tracking beyond WinGet.
  • Current-user registry mirror deduplication and source-coverage filters.
  • Opt-in hourly WinGet updates while open; bounded portable-folder discovery.

Validated: 25 Rust tests, Clippy, release build, synthetic native screenshots and read-only live inventory/release checks. No installed software was changed during testing. Custom vendor/GitHub routes provide guidance and release tracking, not arbitrary asset installation.

Extract the ZIP and run AppTide-Beta.exe. Existing beta catalogues are preserved with atomic backups. Automatic updates require both global and per-app consent; off by default. This beta is unsigned. See the repository catalogue documentation for provenance and limits.

AppTide 0.2.0-beta.1 — Native Rust beta

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 10 Oct 18:15

AppTide's first native Rust beta, with a custom egui immediate-mode interface.

  • A portable native executable with no Electron or JavaScript runtime. The MSVC runtime is statically linked.
  • Virtualized app lists, independent detail scrolling, and update/uninstall buttons that stay visible.
  • Windows registry and current-user AppX inventory, exact WinGet operations, preflight checks, and verified/failed/unverified receipts.
  • Private catalogue history, exclusions and bounded local log sightings. Alpha import copies data into a separate beta directory and preserves the original.
  • Fixed PowerShell diagnostics contaminating inventory JSON; process stdout and stderr are handled separately.

Validated locally: 15 Rust checks, Clippy with warnings denied, native normal/compact screenshots, live read-only inventory, and alpha import with an unchanged source hash. No real third-party software was updated or removed during validation.

This first Rust beta does not yet enable automatic updates, portable-folder discovery or release-watch editing. Imported metadata is preserved. Uninstall results remain unverified if WinGet table omissions prevent proving absence. Real installer/elevation/reboot behavior and broad hardware/locale compatibility remain unvalidated.

Download and extract the ZIP, then run AppTide-Beta.exe. No Rust, Node.js, or build tools are required to run it. WinGet/App Installer is required for package operations. The beta is unsigned and uses %LOCALAPPDATA%\AppTide-Beta; the alpha remains available separately. Before the beta's first scan, Settings → Import alpha catalogue copies existing history.

AppTide 0.1.1 alpha — Keep app actions in view

Choose a tag to compare

@GitKama GitKama released this 10 Oct 17:09

Fixes the selected application's action panel disappearing when scrolling a long inventory.

  • The right-hand details panel stays visible beside the app list and scrolls independently.
  • Selecting a different app resets the panel to its heading and actions.
  • On narrow windows, selecting an app brings the stacked details into view.
  • Desktop tests now reproduce the issue with 100 extra synthetic apps, use isolated test profiles, and require a passing receipt.

Validated in the packaged Windows app. No installed software was updated or removed during testing.

Close the older AppTide window before launching this version. Extract the whole ZIP and run AppTide.exe; your existing local catalogue is retained. The binary remains an unsigned alpha.
