GeneralsVR v0.1.6-alpha - powers aim with the laser + pointer fixes

Choose a tag to compare

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 25 Jul 14:34
  • Special power targeting (spy drone, satellite scan, paradrop and the rest) now follows the laser across the whole map.
  • Powers fired from the shortcut bar with nothing selected actually fire now.
  • Menus and the HUD no longer light up or show a cursor while the laser is pointing at the battlefield.
  • The FPS counter and the clocks are hidden in the headset.

How to get it

  • First time: download GeneralsVR-Setup.cmd below and run it.
  • Already installed: it updates itself next time you launch.

You need your own copy of Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour (Steam, EA app, or GOG). Your game files are never touched.

GeneralsVR v0.1.5-alpha - VR is back + smooth big battles

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 25 Jul 12:56

v0.1.5-alpha

  • VR works again on Meta v205/v206. The game now drives OpenXR through a 64 bit helper (GeneralsVR-xrhost.exe) included in this download. Nothing to configure.
  • Pathfinding rewritten for speed. Worst measured spike went from 25 ms to 0.14 ms. Same paths, same gameplay, no more stutter in big battles.
  • In-game menus (Esc, options, dialogs) now open on the left hand panel and are clickable with the ray.
  • While a menu is open the trigger can't select or order units behind it.
  • Squeeze the trigger three times to take control back from the mouse instantly.
  • No working VR runtime found: the game runs flat instead of crashing.

How to get it

  • First time: download GeneralsVR-Setup.cmd below and run it.
  • Already installed: it updates itself next time you launch.

You need your own copy of Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour (Steam, EA app, or GOG). Your game files are never touched.

Thanks to everyone who sent crash logs for the Meta bug.

GeneralsVR v0.1.4-alpha - mouse + keyboard, or controllers, or both

Choose a tag to compare

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 17 Jul 13:55
  • Mouse and keyboard now work in VR alongside the motion controllers.
  • Controllers are the default. Touching the mouse takes over: battlefield cursor, edge-scroll frame, command bar laid flat, drag-select. Leave the mouse a few seconds while using the controllers and the rays take back over.
  • Ctrl + Space recenters the view.
  • Ctrl + O / Ctrl + L pull the battlefield closer / push it further.
  • A VR settings menu to pin your input mode is planned.

GeneralsVR v0.1.3-alpha - shadows that stay put at every angle

Choose a tag to compare

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 17 Jul 07:50
  • Shadows now render at every head angle. They used to fade or disappear depending on where you looked.
  • Fixed a shadow bug that smeared a dark tint across whole buildings.

GeneralsVR v0.1.2-alpha - no more frozen units, smooth turrets, single ray

Choose a tag to compare

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 16 Jul 18:03
  • Units outside the flat camera's view no longer freeze. Everything stays animated wherever you look.
  • Turrets track smoothly with the tank body instead of snapping or lagging.
  • Removed the left hand laser. The right hand points and clicks; the left hand moves you, gives orders, and holds the HUD.

Known issues: shadows are simple ground blobs. Menus are on a floating screen, start a Skirmish.

GeneralsVR v0.1.1-alpha - GOG/EA support + steadier installer

Choose a tag to compare

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 16 Jul 12:43

Installer and launcher update only. The game is unchanged from v0.1.0-alpha.

  • The launcher now finds Zero Hour from EA app, Origin, and GOG as well as Steam. If detection fails it opens game-path.txt: paste your game folder and start again.
  • Retail and GOG installs with a separate base Generals folder no longer get their registry entry overwritten.
  • GitHub hiccups no longer produce a false "no releases published" error. It retries, then plays the installed version.

GeneralsVR v0.1.0-alpha - first test build

Choose a tag to compare

@Gonzorro Gonzorro released this 16 Jul 12:07

First public test build. Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour, playable in VR.

  • Full skirmish in the headset: stereo rendering, head tracking, whole map view.
  • Motion controllers: laser select, box select, orders, control groups, building placement.
  • Summonable HUD panel with the game's real interface on either hand.
  • Move, turn, and resize yourself from table scale to tank scale.

Install: download GeneralsVR-Setup.cmd below and run it (or the zip: extract, run START-GeneralsVR). SmartScreen warning is normal for an unsigned mod: More info, Run anyway. You need your own Zero Hour from Steam (launch it once first) and a Quest 3 with Quest Link, Meta set as the active OpenXR runtime. Your game files are never touched.

Known issues: shadows don't appear at all distances. Only tested on Quest 3 with an NVIDIA GPU.
