Debain - "Grandpa" Linux - basic version, stable, reliable, doesn't change. Most flavors of Linux are based off of Debian Ubuntu - Linux for the masses, easy to use, doesn't rely on Debian all that much Fedora - fork from Red Hat - totally open source project built around innovation and cutting edge computing Red Hat - Enterprise version of Linux, designed for the commercial market Gentoo - Flavor of Linux built around machine specific optimization Slackware - Widely regarded as the most "Unix-like" flavor of Linux
