Messaging app does not respect customized notification sound

The Messaging app plays default notification sound when a new SMS message is received, despite it was previously set to play another sound. The only time it respects this setting is when the SMS message arrives while the app is open and in the foreground. This wasn't the case until about two updates ago, when the behavior changed to the current state. This issue is also mentioned under #4779, although it is a separate issue.

I can second this! I've been experiencing the same bug and meant to report it. Thank you for taking the time to write this. I've just been dealing with the default notification sound for around 3 updates now. Thank you Graphene OS devs for your dedication and support, and I hope this is an easy fix.

Messaging app notification implementation is in the process of being overhauled. It regressed as part of the port to targeting Android 15 and it wasn't reported until long after the release despite lots of early testing before including it in the OS. If issues don't get reported, they don't get worked on.

Could someone please verify that this has been fixed with the latest beta update for Messaging?
The new update should migrate your old sound over as well

I don't have the beta update since I am following the stable updates. It has not been fixed there yet.

I can now confirm that this bug has been fixed, and the messaging app notification works as expected with the current beta.
