Install pcat-pmu-updater

This page documents how to build and install the upstream MCU firmware updater from rockchip_rk3568_pcat_manager/src/pcat-pmu-updater.c.

Dependencies

On Debian or Armbian:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install git gcc pkg-config libglib2.0-dev zlib1g-dev

The updater source uses GLib and zlib. It does not require the Python web package.

Build From Source

git clone https://github.com/photonicat/rockchip_rk3568_pcat_manager.git /tmp/rockchip_rk3568_pcat_manager
gcc -o /tmp/pcat-pmu-updater \
  /tmp/rockchip_rk3568_pcat_manager/src/pcat-pmu-updater.c \
  $(pkg-config --cflags --libs glib-2.0 zlib)

Check usage:

/tmp/pcat-pmu-updater --help

Expected options from the upstream source:

-P, --pmu-fw-version-get Get current PMU firmware version
-F, --force Force update PMU firmware (ignore version checking)

Install Locally

sudo install -m 0755 /tmp/pcat-pmu-updater /usr/local/sbin/pcat-pmu-updater

Verify:

/usr/local/sbin/pcat-pmu-updater --help

On vendor OpenWrt images, check whether the updater is already installed before building it:

command -v pcat-pmu-updater
pcat-pmu-updater --help

Runtime Requirements

The updater expects:

  • /proc/device-tree/compatible to contain ariaboard,photonicat2.
  • A raw PMU control device at /dev/pcat-pm-ctl.
  • A wrapped Photonicat MCU firmware file using the ARBDPHC2 / RA2E1 format.

Check the device path:

ls -l /dev/pcat-pm-ctl

If /dev/pcat-pm-ctl is missing, load or install a photonicat-pm driver version that exposes the raw PMU control device before using the updater.
