Nativune 0.1.25

Nativune is an unofficial, native Windows desktop app for YouTube Music. It shows the official YouTube Music website in its own window and adds native controls such as a Compact mini player, tray and taskbar buttons. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google or YouTube, and it does not download media or use a private playback API. It blocks ads only if you turn that on yourself (off by default).

Unsigned build. The installer is not yet Authenticode-signed, so Windows may show Unknown Publisher or a Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning. Download only from this page and check the SHA-256 before running it.

What's new

  • Start with Windows (off by default). Turn it on in Settings › Startup › Start Nativune when I sign in to Windows. Choose whether Nativune opens as the full window, in Compact, or hidden in the tray. It works only in copies installed with Setup.
    • If you turn it off in Task Manager or Windows Settings: Nativune shows that and never switches it back on.
    • If the entry points to another copy of Nativune: Settings offers Fix and Remove.
    • When you uninstall: the startup entry is removed.
  • Simpler More menu. It went from 28 rows to 9. Playback (play or pause, previous, next and session shortcuts) and Zoom are now submenus. The Compact window and pause timer items are gone because their toolbar buttons do the same thing. The tray icon and "Remember last Home or Library section" options moved into Settings.
  • Settings has pages. General, Startup, Shortcuts, Privacy and About. Settings that need a restart say so. About shows your install folder, with a button to copy the application status.
  • The tray menu's Quit now reads Quit Nativune.

Heads-up: this update is a full download

Setup changed in this release (its uninstall now removes the startup entry). Quick updates only apply when Setup is unchanged, so this update downloads the full installer. Later releases can be quick updates again.

Install

  1. Download Nativune-Setup.exe and SHA256SUMS.txt from this release.
  2. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash .\Nativune-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256 and compare it with SHA256SUMS.txt. Expected: 23e6cf4d8334695f6efa1667ac1034d1b0bff61c01e2eb784d010a7519dfb093.
  3. Run Setup. It checks for the Microsoft .NET 10 Runtime, Windows App SDK, VC++ runtime and WebView2, and asks before installing any that are missing. Default location: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nativune. Upgrades keep your profile and settings.

If you already have Nativune 0.1.10 or later, the update button at the top right of the toolbar offers this version.

Build and known limits

Built by CI run 36224598747 from commit bb652c2; the files here are that run's output, checked again after download. Windows x64 only. Setup version 1.0.1.

Before release, these passed:

  • the app self-check, including the new settings upgrade and startup-entry checks, and native-fixture;
  • the installer checks, including removing a startup entry that points into the install and keeping one that points elsewhere;
  • the release build's check that test-only and benchmark code is removed;
  • the Compact, player-control, icon, launcher and Windows-function checks.

On a throwaway install, with a test registry key instead of the real startup key:

  • Saving Settings created and removed the entry.
  • Starting with Windows opened hidden in the tray, in Compact and as the full window, as chosen, and launching Nativune again brought the hidden window back.
  • The "turned off in Task Manager" and "points to another copy" states showed correctly.

A QA pass by a second model found five problems (#7–#11), all fixed before release.

Not yet checked:

  • a real Windows sign-in with the real startup entry;
  • the tray menu on screen;
  • Narrator reading the new Settings pages aloud;
  • signed-in use.
