Here, I will explain a bit about how the code is structured, so you might find it a bit easier to explore it. I must say, however, that this is my first 'big' game project and some things are a little clustered and hack-y and I apologize in advance. But, all in all I am quite statisfied with it, since it's stable and doesn't have any bugs! (At least none that I ever encountered...)

Further down I will go into detail about the code, but if you wanna know how the Game or the Editor works, look here!

Overlook

In the root directory you find the project solution file for Visual Studio 2010: WindowsGame1.sln. In the folder "WindowsGame1" you find the Content-Folder, containing all images- and sound-files of the game, and another folder, also titled "WindowsGame1" (they were automatically titled by Visual Studio, hence the repetition), where all the source code is at home. There is also a file called "ArtistQuestProt.prj" in there, which contains startup-date for the game. It is automatically generated whenever you save a map in the games' editor.

Classes

All the classfiles are sorted in these folders:

SystemClasses

Contains basic classes like sprite-manager and the main game1 class, of course.

  • Game1.cs
  • Program.cs
  • AnimatedSprite.cs
  • Sprite.cs
  • Program.cs
  • TextInput.cs
  • storagemanager.cs

GameClasses

Contains more high-level things like the player and GUI class. Also the main menu!

  • GUI.cs
  • Player.cs
  • Item.cs
  • Itemhandler.cs
  • Title.cs
  • Snowflake.cs
  • verbmenu.cs

MapClasses

Since Maps, or Rooms, inherit a great deal of information, and need quite some other classes to help them out, all the classes for maps and everything in those maps and everything in those things in those maps, are here.

  • Maps.cs
  • Object.cs
  • Script.cs
  • ScriptHandler.cs
  • Command.cs

SavefileClasses

Contains classes made for being saved as a savegame. Basically copies of some other classes, just without functions.

  • Savegame.cs
  • MapSave.cs
  • ObjectSave.cs
  • ScriptSave.cs

Editor

Contains the design-form and the code for the editor-window of ArtistQuest.

  • Form1.Designer.cs
  • Form1.cs
