Editor: Scripts Tab
<== Back to the Editor Overview
Scripts are used to define events, dialogue, puzzles and overall game logic. They will be started when the player selects the corresponding Verb in the Manipulation Menu, with one exception: The "Object" System (which is automatically made when a new Room is generated, and can not be deleted) inherits a Script Intro. Intro will be started the first time when a Room is entered by the Player.
Select a Object from the Objects list to see the Scripts it contains in the list below it.
The tab Verbs shows the Scripts the selected Object contains.
The tab Items on the other hand works differently:
Just as Objects, Items also contain Scripts.
On the left side, you see every Item in the game. When one of them is selected, it will show the Scripts belonging to this Item.
Every Item has two empty default-Scripts already: look and defaultUse.
look is executed when the Item is examined in the Inventory, while defaultUse is run when the Item is being used with a Object it has no specific Script for. Usually "I can't do that." messages go into the defaultUse Script.
The Scripts here are executed when the Item is 'used' with a Object.
You can select a Command and click the Up and Down Arrow Buttons to move Commands around in the Script.
When you add a Command while having a Command in the Script selected, it will be added above the selected Command. That way you can insert Commands in the middle of a Script.
If you do not want that, click Remove Selection.
Note: The Edit button doesn't do anything yet. Later on it should copy the parameters of Commands to the fields so you can easily modify already existing Commands.
To add a Script to an Item for an Object, select one from the Objects list and click Add selected Object.
Actually, to add a Script to an Object, you need to head over to the Objects-Tab and create a new "Verb" there.
Check the Commands-Page for a more in-depth description of all of ArtistQuests Commands.
Double-Click at the entry of the Script in the Verbs: list.
