Your project is a file now.

Until this release a project lived inside the app and the only way out was to export it. Now it is a .studio.zip on your disk, and the Mac app treats it the way every other Mac app treats a document.

What's new

  • Save, open, and switch like a normal app. ⌘N / ⌘O / ⌘S / ⇧⌘S and a File menu that means it. A new project — blank, from a template, or imported — becomes a real file immediately, in ~/Documents/Screenshot Studio/ unless you put it somewhere else. The window title is the file name, with a dot in front while something is unsaved.
  • Recent projects. ⌘O lists what you worked on last, with a thumbnail, so switching between two screenshot sets is one keystroke.
  • Nothing is lost to a crash. Work you have not saved is mirrored to disk as you type. If the app is quit unexpectedly, the next launch offers it back — it never applies it behind your back.
  • A close guard that asks. Closing, quitting, or opening another project with unsaved edits asks first instead of discarding.
  • Your first save keeps the original. Opening a project made by an older version leaves it untouched; the first save preserves the previous file as <name>.studio.zip.bak, once. Later saves rotate ordinary backups.
  • Agents work on the same document. The MCP bridge gained live_save and live_open, so "translate everything into Japanese and save" is one request. An agent's edit dirties the document exactly like your own and nothing autosaves — it saves when you ask it to.

Fixed

  • Saving no longer fails when the app is behind another window. WebKit throttles a backgrounded window and the file reader it used simply failed there — every byte the app writes (project saves, mirrored screenshots, PNG export) went through that path.
  • A project save that could not carry an image now says so instead of writing a bundle with a missing screenshot.

Note

The project library is retired on the Mac: your saved projects are written out as real files once, on first launch, and show up in Recents. Nothing is deleted.

Requires macOS 10.15 or later. Universal (Apple Silicon & Intel), signed and notarized.
