Screenshot Studio 0.5.1

New icon and a shorter name (EN)

  • New app icon: a white S and a coral S, offset on a navy tile. The website favicon is the same drawing.
  • The product is now just Screenshot Studio — Apple's trademark guidelines don't allow "App Store" in a product name. The window title changes; the app, its settings and the MCP connection don't.
  • On the Mac, the fastlane upload help now tells you to pick a folder instead of unzipping a ZIP.
  • screenshot-studio-mcp 0.4.1 only renames the package description and README; its tools are unchanged from 0.4.0.

  • Editor's Choice·App of the Day

Laurel rating badges and a cleaner ornament set (EN)

  • Badges gain a laurel style: laurel branches around a rating like "4.9 ★★★★★ / 50K ratings" with no background, 0–5 stars, and a smaller second line after a newline. Apple's own recognitions (Editors' Choice, App of the Day) aren't allowed in screenshots — use real ratings.
  • Emoji ornaments are replaced by nine single-colour vector marks — sparkle, sparkle trio, star, quote, heart, and hand-drawn underline, circle, arrow and check — each with a colour picker. The hand-drawn circle, arrow and check draw above the device screen.
  • Emoji ornaments already in your projects still show and stay editable; they're just no longer offered.
  • screenshot-studio-mcp 0.4.0 carries the new badge and ornament vocabulary.

Desktop tray drag reorder fixed (EN)

  • Slide thumbnails can be dragged to reorder in the desktop app again (arrow buttons unchanged).
  • Internal drags no longer trip the file-drop handler: no false "couldn't open project" error, no file-drop overlay flash mid-drag.

Easier slide reorder, highlight framing, and device sizes (EN)

  • Drag tray thumbnails to reorder (fixed a bug where drags were cancelled); ← → buttons move one step, keyboard accessible.
  • Highlight cards gain Select source / Select card buttons for direct canvas drag-resize, plus a nudge pad and grow/shrink buttons.
  • Size dropdowns are now same-device only; uploading another device's screenshot shows a banner with an explicit one-tap conversion instead of silently mismatching the canvas.

Your project is a file now.

Until this release a project lived inside the app and the only way out was to export it. Now it is a .studio.zip on your disk, and the Mac app treats it the way every other Mac app treats a document.

What's new

  • Save, open, and switch like a normal app. ⌘N / ⌘O / ⌘S / ⇧⌘S and a File menu that means it. A new project — blank, from a template, or imported — becomes a real file immediately, in ~/Documents/Screenshot Studio/ unless you put it somewhere else. The window title is the file name, with a dot in front while something is unsaved.
  • Recent projects. ⌘O lists what you worked on last, with a thumbnail, so switching between two screenshot sets is one keystroke.
  • Nothing is lost to a crash. Work you have not saved is mirrored to disk as you type. If the app is quit unexpectedly, the next launch offers it back — it never applies it behind your back.
  • A close guard that asks. Closing, quitting, or opening another project with unsaved edits asks first instead of discarding.
  • Your first save keeps the original. Opening a project made by an older version leaves it untouched; the first save preserves the previous file as <name>.studio.zip.bak, once. Later saves rotate ordinary backups.
  • Agents work on the same document. The MCP bridge gained live_save and live_open, so "translate everything into Japanese and save" is one request. An agent's edit dirties the document exactly like your own and nothing autosaves — it saves when you ask it to.

Fixed

  • Saving no longer fails when the app is behind another window. WebKit throttles a backgrounded window and the file reader it used simply failed there — every byte the app writes (project saves, mirrored screenshots, PNG export) went through that path.
  • A project save that could not carry an image now says so instead of writing a bundle with a missing screenshot.

Note

The project library is retired on the Mac: your saved projects are written out as real files once, on first launch, and show up in Recents. Nothing is deleted.

Requires macOS 10.15 or later. Universal (Apple Silicon & Intel), signed and notarized.

The loupe became a real annotation tool, and the editor stopped losing text you had just typed.

Magnified highlights

A highlight's card is now sized by its magnification rather than by a width you set and
discovered the zoom from afterwards — reframing the sampled region keeps the magnification
instead of silently changing it. The card can place itself: it scores both sides of the
region against the region, your captions and any card already there, and takes the lesser
collision, then draws a leader line back to what it magnifies. Drag the card and it stays
where you put it.

The dashed region marker used to be editor chrome that shipped in the export. It is now part
of the design: it takes a colour (a new loupe picks up the project accent), and it can be
switched off — which also drops the leader line, and lets you float the lens directly over the
region it samples. The card takes a rim so it separates from the UI beneath it, and
circle rounds it to the silhouette people read as a lens without being told.

Both the marker and the leader now scale their stroke with the canvas, so what you see in the
editor is what lands in the 1320px export. They used to draw three times thinner in the file
you actually ship.

Editing

  • Text typed straight onto the canvas is no longer lost when you leave the editor without
clicking away first. Moving to Localize mid-word used to discard it.
  • Text blocks can be deleted — with Backspace on the canvas, or per block in the panel.
The first block could not be removed by any route before.
  • The text section is an accordion: the block you select on the canvas opens, the rest
collapse to their label and a preview. Four blocks used to mean eighty controls in one scroll.
  • Splitting a 2-page pair no longer puts the same screen on both slides. One image spans
both pages while they are linked; a copy of it on a lone slide was just the same screenshot
    twice.
  • The export preview could stall behind a spinner that never stopped, showing nothing. It
now renders slide by slide and survives an edit landing mid-render.
  • The slide you are editing is the brightest thing on the board — its neighbours are held
back rather than the other way round.

Finding your way around

  • One Open Project entry instead of two identical "Select Files" buttons. Drop in a saved
.zip or an agent-authored file set; it works out which you meant.
  • The three save commands say where each one puts things — inside this browser, design only,
or a .zip file you can reopen.
  • On Localize, a language with no screenshot of its own now shows the image it will actually
    export
, dimmed, instead of an empty upload slot that read as "nothing will be exported".
  • The app warns you before storage fills up, rather than after a change has already failed
    to save.

Worth knowing

  • Highlights are capped at two per slide. Existing projects keep whatever they have —
nothing is removed — but you cannot add a third. The limit used to be three on the import
path and unlimited in the editor, which disagreed.
  • The MCP server package on npm is still 0.1.0. The loupe vocabulary and the new
live_inspect canvas geometry are in the app, but an agent installed with
npx -y screenshot-studio-mcp will not see them until that package is published separately.

Selecting the first or last slide now centres it.

The editor lays every slide out side by side, and scrolling stops where the content does — so
the two slides at the ends could never reach the middle of the board however hard you scrolled.
Picking slide 1 left it pinned against the left edge, half under the panel. The board now keeps
enough room at both ends for any slide to sit in the centre, and it waits for the live canvas to
take its size before centring, which is why the last slide used to stop just short.

Connect an AI agent in one line, and never miss an update.

An MCP server you can actually reach

The app has always exposed the project you have open to an AI agent, but the server that talks to it lived in the source repo — no use to anyone who downloaded the app. It is now on npm:

claude mcp add screenshot-studio -- npx -y screenshot-studio-mcp

The header's MCP card hands you that command (and the JSON config for other clients) instead of a socket path, and links the new MCP guide. The switch still turns the whole thing off, and off survives a relaunch.

What an agent can do with it: read the open project, translate every missing caption, patch layout and styling, and render a slide at export resolution to check its own work.

Update notices

The app now asks GitHub once per launch whether a newer version exists and shows a badge if so. ⋯ → Check for Updates runs it on demand; Check at Launch turns the automatic one off. It is the only network request the app makes — the privacy policy says exactly what it carries.

Fixed

  • A project saved under an old schema but stamped with the current version could white-screen the app on launch, with no way out — the same value reloaded every time. Such a project is now dropped to a clean slate instead.

Install

ScreenshotStudio-0.1.2-universal.dmg — universal (Apple Silicon + Intel), macOS 10.15 or later, signed and notarized. Open the dmg, drag the app into Applications, launch.

@Hyunsang-coder Hyunsang-coder released this 30 Aug 06:14

Signed and notarized by Apple — the download now opens without the Gatekeeper detour v0.1.0 needed.

Download: ScreenshotStudio-0.1.1-universal.dmg — universal binary (Apple Silicon + Intel), macOS 10.15 or later. Open the .dmg, drag Screenshot Studio into Applications, launch.

Changes since 0.1.0

  • Developer ID signature + notarization, stapled into both the app and the disk image.
  • MCP server card in the header — a status chip shows whether the agent bridge is listening, and a switch turns it off. Off persists across launches; the card also shows the socket path an MCP server connects to.

What it does

  • Four steps: project setup → canvas editor → localize → export at exact App Store Connect sizes.
  • iPhone 6.9″/6.5″ and iPad 13″/11″ upload slots; alpha-stripped PNGs zipped as locale/device/index.png.
  • Captions live in one slide × language table; per-locale screenshots are routed by filename.
  • Canvas editing: device frames, rotation and edge-drag crop, magnifier loupes, badges, ornaments, generic shapes, and App-Store-style 2-page panoramas.
  • Live agent bridge — an MCP agent can inspect, patch, translate and render the project you have open.
  • No account, no upload, no backend: projects and images stay on your Mac.
