Deleting from hierarchy not working even if unlocked and viceversa (Win10/Blender4.5.3LTS/Bonsai0.8.4-alpha2510311351)

Bug Description

When deleting IfcProject/My Project from the outliner with delete key on keyboard, Bonsai says that I have to unlock it in Spatial tab even if it is unlocked (for Site, Building, Storey it worked as expected), but when I delete with backspace (or mouse choosing delete), then it works also with locked Spatial Decomposition :)

(I do this for importing IfcTypeProduct from IFC4X3 Demo Template to another project started as 4X3 with Blank Project Template.)

But I deleted it without problem with backspace even if locked 🤷‍♂️ so even if it is not allowed it is possible (and this possibility helped me a lot btw /edit: i needed to do it to import only Products to another project/)

Yeah, that's something we need to investigate. What does backspace do? In vanilla Blender if I select an object and press backspace nothing happens.

Thank you for info, I have new too. Please take in consideration that I know my method is in the name of sketching and learning very unclean now - I just do what I can and making Issue here is just me trying to help even if the bug is found dirty way:) Also sorry for my english and style, I dont want Gemini now to help me with stylization, I need to go sleep:)

So:

When I want to delete things (even if Spatial Decomposition is locked - which I didn´t need or expect:)) then backspace or rightclick/delete works perfectly for everything! But.. When I then save the .IFC, the crucial "IfcProject/My Project" (which is in my log named IfcProject/delete...) gets back.

Now the weird part for me, but firstly I need to tell that for my purposes I am now in .blend file synchronized with .IFC and I know it is not optimal O:) but I need it for a while:
When I import this reduced .IFC to another project (still opened in .blend file) with "Import Without IFC Data" unchecked, then I get what I need - I have IfcTypeProduct in this .blend project and can use it with tools such as Wall Tool etc... (That´s just my lame way to import products because I am learning and need to use my animated Sun for 2026.) Weird for me was that in Spatial Decomposition there appeared new name of My Project and that is "delete" because I imported it with this name. But I can use this Products to sketch! And... When I delete the "IfcProject/delete" and use undocumented operator Load Container Manager then I can see that my hierarchy gets back from "IfcProject/delete" to project "IfcProject/My Project", but then I can not use the types imported:)

So now I understand that by importing this way I also rewrite My Project with imported one but I´m fine with tis in this phase:) and wanted just to share.

P.S.: Sketching and learning is really my priority now and when I will need really clean project, I will do it correctly from scratch and I will use Sun in another way (.blend file with my animated Sun Position addon with linked .IFC) So again please sorry - for long weird text.. I just needed somehow to get Products from 4X3 Demo Template and by the way I found these little things I thought I can tell you about.

Hey @Krfl3, thank you for the super-detailed report and follow-ups! You've found a very interesting inconsistency.

As @Moult mentioned, you are correct that the IfcProject entity is the root of the whole data structure and shouldn't be deleted (which is why the add-on tries to re-create it on save, as you saw!).

What you've discovered is a "logic escape" in the add-on:

The Delete key is correctly hooked by Bonsai/BlenderBIM to run its safety checks (and block the deletion).

The Backspace key and the Right-Click > Delete menu are using Blender's native delete operator, which the add-on isn't catching.

So, the bug isn't that the Delete key fails; the bug is that Backspace succeeds when it shouldn't.

How to import types (the clean way)
I saw your main goal is to import IfcTypeProduct definitions (like wall types, etc.) from the Demo Template into another project.

You are right, this is a key workflow! Trying to delete the IfcProject is a creative workaround, but there is a much cleaner and more stable way to do this using Blender's Append feature.

Here is the recommended workflow:

Open your main .blend project (the one you want to import to).

Go to File > Append...

Navigate to and click on the .ifc file (or .blend file) you want to import from (e.g., your "ČistáDemoKnižnica.ifc").

Blender will open the file and show you a list of data folders. You want to import the Type Objects. These live in their own collection.

Click on the Collection folder.

You should see a collection named IfcProject/Types (or something similar, like IfcProject/delete/Types in your case).

Select that .../Types collection and click the Append button.

This will import only the type objects into your project's scene.

After you do this, you might need to tell BlenderBIM to re-scan the file for these new types. You can usually do this by going to the "Project Setup" or "Library" panel and clicking the "Load Container Manager" or "Reload Library" button.

This "Append" method is the official way to share data between files. It won't break your main IfcProject and will cleanly add the types to your library so you can use them with the Wall Tool.

I hope this helps you achieve your goal in a much safer way!
