1. Bundled Offline IMD Data Archive
Version 2.0.0 includes an extensive archive of IMD gridded climate data.
| Variable | Available Period | Spatial Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Daily Rainfall | 1901–2025 | 0.25° |
| Daily Minimum Temperature | 1951–2025 | 1.0° |
| Daily Maximum Temperature | 1951–2025 | 1.0° |
Features
- Extract the bundled archive without an internet connection.
- Automatically retain existing valid files.
- Avoid downloading or extracting files that are already available.
- Check IMD for newer annual files when internet access is available.
- Continue working with the bundled archive when IMD servers are temporarily unavailable.
2. Real-Time IMD Data
The application supports recent daily rainfall, minimum temperature, and maximum temperature observations.
| Variable | Spatial Resolution |
|---|---|
| Real-Time Rainfall | 0.25° |
| Real-Time Minimum Temperature | 0.50° |
| Real-Time Maximum Temperature | 0.50° |
Improved Real-Time Processing
Existing real-time files are automatically reused.
When IMD has not yet published the latest requested observations, the application:
- Retains successfully downloaded files.
- Reports the latest available date.
- Lists pending dates.
- Completes the progress indicator at 100%.
- Allows users to continue working with available data.
- Avoids repeatedly requesting later unavailable dates.
3. Project-Based Workflow
Users can select a project folder where the application automatically manages the following directories:
Selected_Project_Folder/
│
├── IMD_DATA/
├── Realtime/
├── Extract/
│ ├── daily/
│ ├── monthly/
│ └── SWAT/
├── Analysis/
└── Project/
The selected project location is remembered for future sessions.
4. Multiple Data Extraction Methods
Data can be extracted using:
- A single latitude and longitude.
- A rectangular geographic region.
- A CSV location file.
- An Excel location file.
- The included sample CSV template.
Regional Extraction
- IMD-grid snapping.
- Custom 0.25° coordinate spacing.
- Temperature resampling to rainfall locations.
- Native temperature-grid extraction.
- Automatic skipping of locations outside India or without valid IMD observations.
5. Daily and Monthly Excel Outputs
The application generates one Excel workbook for every valid location.
Daily Output Columns
Date | City | Lat | Long | Rain | Tmin | Tmax
Monthly Processing
- Rainfall is accumulated as a monthly total.
- Minimum temperature is calculated as a monthly average.
- Maximum temperature is calculated as a monthly average.
- Leap years are handled automatically.
6. SWAT Weather-File Generation
Regional archive extraction can generate weather input files for the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT).
Generated Files
- Precipitation station files.
- Temperature station files.
pcpINDEX.txttempINDEX.txt
SWAT Index Format
ID,NAME,LAT,LONG,ELEVATION
Improvements
- Latitude and longitude use two decimal places.
- NASA POWER MERRA-2 elevation is retrieved automatically.
- Precipitation, temperature, and index files are stored together.
- Repeated regional runs safely replace previous SWAT output.
- Duplicate index records and stale station files are prevented.
- Previously completed SWAT output is retained if a new operation is cancelled.
7. Climate Data Analysis
The application generates analysis workbooks containing descriptive statistics and climate trend analysis results.
Descriptive Statistics
- Monthly mean.
- Median.
- Standard deviation.
- Minimum and maximum.
- Monthly rainfall totals.
Climate Trend Analysis
- Mann–Kendall trend test.
- Mann–Kendall Z statistic.
- P value.
- Sen's slope.
- Trend classification.
Analysis is performed separately for rainfall, minimum temperature, and maximum temperature wherever valid data are available.
8. Improved Graphical User Interface
Version 2.0.0 includes:
- Application version displayed in the interface.
- Instant blue startup screen.
- Scrollable workflow pages.
- Improved progress display.
- Cancel button for long-running operations.

11. Important Notes
Real-Time Data Availability
Recent real-time grids may be published several days late by IMD.
IMD Data Services
Online data availability depends on IMD maintaining its data services and download interfaces.
NASA Elevation
If NASA elevation cannot be retrieved, the application uses an elevation value of 0.00 m and reports the issue.
Offline Archive
The bundled annual archive remains usable when IMD servers are temporarily unavailable.
Windows Security Warning
The current installer is not digitally code-signed and may display an Unknown Publisher warning during installation.
Download the installer only from the official GitHub release page.
