Settings and updates

Open Plugins > Paradox Modding Toolkit > Options. Save and apply writes the settings and restarts the language server. The clearer labels, folder browsing, and localization dropdown described here are part of plugin version 0.2.2.

Setting Purpose
Game Crusader Kings III, Victoria 3, or Europa Universalis V. Choose the game your mod targets.
Game data folder The game's game subfolder, used to index vanilla files. Browse to it or enter its path. Empty means no vanilla game-file indexing. The plugin does not find game installations automatically.
Script docs folder The folder containing game-generated script_docs dumps. Empty uses bundled documentation for the selected game. It is independent of the game data folder.
Localization language Language used for localization lookups and fixes. English is the default.
Server override Advanced: path to an executable or .cmd launcher. Empty uses the managed server.
Show completion while typing Enable or disable requests while typing. Ctrl+Space remains available.
Show argument help while typing Enable or disable requests while typing. Ctrl+Shift+Space remains available.
Syntax colors Enable lexical syntax colors.
Extra colors from language server Enable server token colors. Requires syntax colors.
Code folding Enable server fold ranges.
Completion inserts Choose Minimal structure, Example blocks, or Names only. The explanation below the dropdown describes the selected mode.
Hover detail Choose Compact, Standard, or Full. The explanation below the dropdown describes the selected level.
Check for language server updates Enable or disable background server checks.

For example, a Steam Crusader Kings III installation uses a folder ending in steamapps/common/Crusader Kings III/game. Select game, not the Steam library, game installation root, or mod directory. You can use bundled script documentation without configuring a game data folder, but vanilla definitions will be missing from the index.

The localization dropdown offers English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Polish. Choose Other (custom language) to enable Custom language and enter a key such as braz_por. Use lowercase letters and underscores, without an l_ prefix or colon. The preview shows the resulting localization filename and header.

The saved standard values remain the server's language keys: english, french, german, spanish, russian, korean, simp_chinese, japanese, and polish. A dropdown entry does not establish that every game supports that localization language.

For direct editing, choose Open settings from the plugin menu. Settings are stored in the [px-toolkit] section of px-toolkit.ini in Notepad++'s plugin configuration directory. Use Restart server after saving changes to that file. Existing settings are retained during a plugin upgrade; the friendly labels do not change the stored game, language, completion, or hover keys.

Options with bundled server defaults and localization choices

Plugin updates and server updates

The LSP updates automatically by default. The plugin DLL does not. Plugin 0.2.2 deliberately bundles LSP 0.3.8 from the toolkit 0.5.5 prerelease. Automatic updates accept newer stable releases only; an older stable server does not replace the bundled one. Download plugin releases from the repository's Releases page, close Notepad++, and replace the complete plugin folder. Publishing a GitHub release does not add a plugin to Plugins Admin.

At the first managed server start in each Notepad++ session, the plugin starts a background check, at most once per 24 hours. Check server updates bypasses that interval. Downloads are stored under %LOCALAPPDATA%\PxToolkit\servers\<arch>, where <arch> is x86, x64, or arm64, and do not require administrator access.

The updater checks the download digest, required files, and reported server version before selecting a downloaded server. A running server stays in use until Restart server or the next Notepad++ launch. Offline checks and rejected downloads leave the existing server available.

Managed updates require a server archive for the plugin's Windows architecture. The pinned upstream release provides x64; x86 and ARM64 packages use their bundled server until a matching upstream archive is available. A custom server launcher bypasses managed updates. Disabling checks still permits use of a version already downloaded. Under Wine, background updates also require working Windows PowerShell; otherwise, disable automatic checks and replace plugin packages manually. See Installation.

Unsaved tabs and restart

In released plugin 0.2.0, save open mod files before restarting the server or applying options. The audit found that inactive unsaved tabs are not reopened to the server until activated again.

Plugin version 0.2.2 retains tracked buffer contents across server restarts. After initialization, the plugin resends open documents belonging to the active mod, including inactive tabs with unsaved edits. Tracked files belonging to another mod remain outside that server session and are resent when that mod becomes active.
