v2.4.0 - Browser Compatibility Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@JeromeErasmus JeromeErasmus released this 14 Dec 05:16
a1e3614

🌐 Browser Compatibility Fix

This release resolves the browser compatibility issue reported in #2 where the package failed to work in browser environments (React + Vite) due to Node.js-specific APIs.

🚀 What's Fixed

  • Browser Compatibility: Removed process.memoryUsage() calls that caused TypeError: process.memoryUsage is not a function in browsers
  • PerformanceMonitor Removed: The performance monitoring system has been completely removed to eliminate Node.js dependencies
  • StreamingParser Updated: Now uses buffer-size based memory limits instead of Node.js memory monitoring

✅ What's Preserved

  • Core Parsing Functionality: All ADF ↔ Markdown conversion features work exactly the same
  • All Parser Methods: markdownToAdf(), adfToMarkdown(), validation, etc. are unchanged
  • Test Coverage: All 519 tests still pass - no functionality lost
  • TypeScript Support: Full type definitions maintained

📦 Breaking Changes

  • Removed PerformanceMonitor class and related exports
  • Removed ./performance module export
  • Removed performance-related methods from Parser class:
    • getPerformanceStats()
    • getPerformanceReport()
    • validatePerformanceTargets()

🔧 Migration Guide

If you were using performance monitoring:

// Before (v2.3.x)
import { PerformanceMonitor } from 'extended-markdown-adf-parser/performance';

// After (v2.4.0+)
// Performance monitoring removed - use your own timing if needed
const start = Date.now();
const result = parser.markdownToAdf(markdown);
const duration = Date.now() - start;

🎯 Browser Usage

Now works perfectly in all browser environments:

// ✅ Works in React, Vue, Angular, vanilla JS
import { Parser } from 'extended-markdown-adf-parser';
const parser = new Parser();
const adf = parser.markdownToAdf('# Hello World');

Closes #2

v1.2.2 - Fix table cell metadata support

Choose a tag to compare

@JeromeErasmus JeromeErasmus released this 22 Sep 13:38
c22f57c

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed table cell metadata support for both header and data cells
  • Enable colspan and rowspan attributes in table headers via metadata comments
  • Improved table conversion to properly handle first row as headers with metadata

🔧 Technical Changes

  • Updated convertMdastTableCell to apply metadata to both tableCell and tableHeader nodes
  • Enhanced applyMetadataToAdfNode to handle 'cell' metadata for both table cell types

📝 Usage

You can now use metadata comments for table cell attributes in both header and data rows:

```markdown
Header 1 Header 2
Cell 1 Cell 2
Cell 3 Cell 4
```

This will correctly apply colspan to the header cell and rowspan to the data cell.

v1.2.0 - Metadata Comments Support for Basic Parser

Choose a tag to compare

@JeromeErasmus JeromeErasmus released this 22 Sep 12:39
b16b78e

🚀 New Features

Metadata Comments Support in Basic Parser

  • ✅ Smart Detection: Basic Parser now automatically detects metadata comments and switches processing modes
  • ✅ Hybrid Performance: Fast path (~0.9ms) for simple documents, enhanced path (~3.4ms) for metadata comments
  • ✅ Full Compatibility: Uses same processMetadataComments utility as Enhanced Parser for consistent behavior
  • ✅ Backward Compatible: No API changes - existing code continues to work exactly the same

Documentation Corrections

  • 🔧 Fixed Inaccurate Feature Matrix: Both parsers now correctly show full ADF block support
  • 🔧 Corrected ADF Extensions: Basic Parser supports ALL ADF blocks (panel, expand, mediaSingle, mediaGroup), not just panels/expands
  • 📝 Updated Performance Notes: Clear explanation of hybrid processing behavior

📊 Performance Comparison

Parser Simple Documents With Metadata Comments
Basic Parser ~0.9ms (fast path) ~3.4ms (enhanced path)
Enhanced Parser ~3.4ms (always enhanced) ~3.4ms (always enhanced)

🔄 Migration Guide

No migration needed! This is a fully backward-compatible enhancement.

For Existing Basic Parser Users

// Your existing code continues to work exactly the same
const parser = new MarkdownParser();
const adf = parser.parse(markdown); // Now supports metadata comments automatically!

New Metadata Comments Support

const markdownWithMetadata = `
<!-- adf:heading textAlign="center" -->
# Centered Heading

<!-- adf:paragraph lineHeight="1.5" -->
This paragraph has custom line height.
`;

const parser = new MarkdownParser(); // Basic Parser now handles this!
const adf = parser.parse(markdownWithMetadata);
// Custom attributes are preserved: heading.attrs.textAlign === "center"

🎯 What's Next

The Basic Parser now provides the best of both worlds:

  • ⚡ Lightning-fast performance for simple documents
  • 🎨 Full metadata comments support when needed
  • 🔄 Automatic mode switching based on content
  • 📦 Same feature parity as Enhanced Parser for ADF blocks

Choose Basic Parser for performance-critical applications that occasionally need metadata comments support.
