PolyPalette v0.1 — Release Notes
Patch v0.1.4
Fixed
About — Fixed licensing and telemetry issues.
SetCreator — Removed the Set Creator's Create Mesh button, which always crashed.
Patch v0.1.3
Added
Startup — PolyPalette now shows a version's what's new message once, the first time that version runs.
Startup — Added the closing splash that plays as PolyPalette puts itself away.
About — PolyPalette now independently verifies which 3ds Max or Blender build is actually connected and checks it against your maintenance coverage; a brand-new DCC version nobody has catalogued yet shows a popup explaining that instead of failing silently, with a Discord link for support, and covered/not-covered status shows on the About page's own licence line.
Options — Connect now checks whether a connected DCC's plugin copy is out of date in memory and pushes a fresh copy with a live reload automatically; a freshly-launched PolyPalette now connects to whichever DCC asked for it instead of always trying 3ds Max first, and the Connection tab's "still starting" warning now fires after 3 minutes for 3ds Max and 1 minute for Blender instead of 10 minutes for either.
SetCreator — The Set Creator now shows progress feedback while searching the scene for a set, loading a texture, or creating a set, and a scene search always ends with a clear message, found, nothing matched, or the actual error, instead of possibly looking like nothing is happening.
SetCreator — Creating a set no longer closes the Set Creator window: it now stays open on a result screen showing the outcome and real picture thumbnails, and the set you just created becomes the open set for further editing.
SetCreator — Added starting a 3D application for Create Set Data when none is open: it prefers Blender, falls back to 3ds Max, connects to a copy that is already open instead of starting another, and still saves the set, without pictures, if nothing can be started.
SetCreator — Added opening a set by picking its name from the Set Creator's Set Name list.
Hotspot — Once more than one set is showing on the Trim Sheets tab, each now sits inside its own named box with its own Hotspot button, so you pick which set the selection is packed into.
Multi-Set — Added a Grid View switch to the Set toolbar: on, sets on display sit two side by side; off, each takes the full width and they stack. Your choice is remembered between sessions, and a single set on display now always takes the full panel width.
UI — Replaced the noise-based background pattern with a grid-based one that has a subtle receding 3D layered look.
UI — Long dropdown lists now scroll with the mouse wheel or a draggable position bar instead of running off the bottom of the window, and always open at the top; this also covers the Set Creator's Category, Style and Set Name lists, which used to stop at eight entries.
Fixed
Startup — Fixed the boot-time licence check freezing the whole window, including its own animation, while the greeting splash played.
Startup — Fixed the welcome screen's licence box: Activate and Start Trial no longer stay stuck disabled, and the key field no longer masks itself with dots while you're typing a new key into it.
Startup — Fixed cards, menus and overlays (the licence card, Connect screen, weekly-build code card, standby card, progress and error messages, and confirmation menus) sometimes drawing over the welcome splash while it played, and sometimes staying stuck on screen once it ended even when nothing asked for them; the closing splash gets the same treatment.
Startup — Fixed a timing issue at launch that could still show a genuinely licensed machine the "activate a licence" screen, self-correcting only once you clicked past it.
About — Fixed licence activation and its periodic recheck treating a temporary server hiccup, rate limit, or malformed request as a bad licence key, which could silently start a trial on an already-licensed machine; a licence key or other field containing special characters no longer breaks the request either.
About — Fixed the weekly-build gate starting its mainline-tool download the instant the "no access code" screen appeared, often finishing before there was a real chance to stop it; the download now only starts from the "Install the Mainline Tool" button, and cancelling it returns the screen to normal instead of leaving it stuck on "Fetching...".
UI — Fixed the "Plugin Out Of Date" offer appearing over the Greeting/Connect screen instead of waiting behind it.
UI — Fixed an open dropdown list staying on screen after clicking elsewhere or changing page; a click off the list now closes it without also pressing whatever was underneath.
TrimSheet — Fixed buttons and switches sharing a row not lining up or matching size: the UV Adjustment buttons, the Set toolbar's Trims/Hotspot/Grid View/Run Hotspot row, and each set's own Hotspot button are now consistent widths and heights, and the toolbar row no longer collapses onto the Palette heading when Run Hotspot leaves it.
Multi-Set — Fixed shift-clicking a second set in the Palette on the Trim Sheets tab showing neither set; shift-click now adds or removes that set from the ones on display, and a plain click switches over to showing only the one you clicked.
SetCreator — Fixed typing a new name over an already-open base set silently overwriting the base set's own files instead of creating a new one.
SetCreator — Fixed set saves dropping the Material Name and Texture Name Override fields.
SetCreator — Fixed a scene-material match erasing every drawn trim mark from the canvas when a base set's marks were already showing.
SetCreator — The Set Creator now shows only the controls relevant to the selected Tool Type: Layout Type, Linked Set and Texture Direction appear only when making a trim sheet, and two disconnected duplicate fields were removed from the Settings box.
SetCreator — Fixed the canvas switches (Enable Grid, No Overlap, Group Touching, Group Trims, Lock Aspect) not responding to clicks.
SetCreator — Fixed picking a set from the Set Name list: it now opens immediately with no "discard changes?" prompt, and the confirmation card's Back, Cancel, Rename and Delete buttons all work instead of doing nothing; a set whose saved texture no longer exists now falls back to a texture found beside the set file or a scene match, and the 3D application's window no longer flashes to the front while the Set Creator window is open.
SetCreator — Fixed the Mesh Generator's preview crashing outright when opened on its own.
SetCreator — Fixed the Set Creator canvas magnifier: it now shows twice as much of the sheet and appears only while its button is held, instead of sitting beside the pointer on a plain hover.
SetCreator — Fixed the app freezing when a Set Manager question (New, double-clicking a tile, or Edit) was asked while a set was already open in the Set Creator.
About — Fixed every Blender session showing as an unrecognised version regardless of your actual install, caused by comparing Blender's full version number against the shorter form the supported-versions list uses.
MCP — A build that doesn't include a tool module now refuses an AI assistant's request to run that tool's actions directly, matching what its hidden tab and greyed-out controls already showed; raw code execution is also no longer available to anything connecting to a released copy of PolyPalette.
Patch v0.1.2
Fixed
About — Fixed Deactivate always failing and leaving the app showing as licensed afterward: its confirmation now opens as its own popup instead of drawing inline where scrolling could push it off-screen, and a licence whose activation record went missing is now repaired automatically instead of leaving deactivation permanently broken.
MCP — PolyPalette's MCP connection, whether from its own tools, a customer's IDE, or dev tooling, now stays closed until the app is licensed, closing a gap where it previously answered every request regardless of licence state.
TrimSheet — Fixed Apply Trim leaving narrower faces short of a jogged or curved run's far edge and leaving faces leaning across the run instead of landing square; the Average Strip Width option in the Experimental menu now actually changes the result instead of being ignored.
ARMode — Fixed the AR overlay going silent for the rest of a session after a single dropped connection, which had left every later Apply Trim and Run Hotspot drawing no bracket or face-reveal at all.
Hotspot — Fixed Run Hotspot in Blender reporting success while moving nothing when faces were already selected; it now writes to the same place UV Adjustments does instead of a copy Blender discards during editing.
TrimSheet — Fixed Flip, Rotate, Unitize, Scale, Grow, and Shrink acting on each face separately instead of the whole connected piece in Blender, which could tear seams apart.
UI — Fixed PolyPalette bringing the wrong 3D application to the front: Connect now raises the application it just switched to, and Run Hotspot, Apply Trim, and UV nudge/scale now raise whichever application is actually connected instead of always raising the one with the larger window.
TrimSheet — Fixed UV Adjustments' axis and modifier keys: every button now acts along the loaded set's own axis and renames itself to say so, holding Shift switches to the other axis, and right-click does the opposite of what left-click does; Rotate has no axis so Shift does nothing to it, and the Uniform switch now only affects Grow and Shrink.
TrimSheet — Fixed UV Adjustments' sliding animation never appearing in Blender: dropping in and out of face-select mode on every step made it flicker straight to the end, and the viewport wasn't asked to redraw until the whole sequence had finished; both are fixed and it also runs about a third faster per adjustment.
ARMode — Fixed the AR overlay lighting up the wrong faces, and missing the last one entirely, on a Run Hotspot or Apply Trim in Blender; face numbers now agree between the plugin and the overlay.
Options — Fixed Connect marking every version of a DCC as connected when only one actually was; it also now shows "Connecting to X..." the moment you press Connect and highlights a DCC's row green as soon as it's running, not only once PolyPalette is actually talking to it.
Options — The Connection tab's Rescan can now find a Blender installed directly in a plain C:\Blender\ folder, not just under Program Files or Blender Foundation.
MCP — Sixteen more requests an AI assistant can send now work in Blender instead of being refused: selecting faces, selecting by material ID, clearing the selection, undo, redo, six scene readouts, creating a set's mesh, and the batched Hotspot write.
MCP — Fixed an AI assistant's select-faces and select-by-material-ID requests failing with "face index out of range" in 3ds Max on any object carrying modifiers, such as a Chamfer; both now count faces from the base mesh instead of the top of the modifier stack.
Patch v0.1.1
Added
Startup — Returning to PolyPalette on a machine that's both unlicensed and not connected to a 3D application now shows a Licence Required welcome screen over a frosted, darkened picture of the tool, instead of landing straight on the Connect screen with no notice; the same prompt on the About page now sits inside the Licence section instead of floating separately above it.
UI — The Connect screen is now a centred, frosted overlay card that shows the tool blurred and darkened behind it, instead of a full-height opaque sheet.
TrimSheet — UV Adjustments now has a single Uniform switch in place of separate U and V toggles: on, an adjustment moves both axes together and holding Shift reverses it; off, it moves U only and holding Shift switches it to V, with every button showing what it will do the moment you hold the key.
TrimSheet — Strip unwrap can now split UVs by angle each turn and average strip width, from the Experimental menu, and unwrapped UVs come out at their real world size instead of stretched to fill 0 to 1.
ARMode — Apply Trim and Run Hotspot now show a quick, compact bracket and face reveal the instant processing starts, switching to the full animation only if a run is still going a second later.
SetCreator — The buttons for a selected set (Edit, Delete, Organise, Rename, Export, and Link or Unlink) now live in a menu bar fixed to the bottom of the window instead of a card wedged into the set library, so they stay reachable no matter how far you've scrolled; selecting several sets lists all of their names, under a heading reading "Manage Set" or "Manage Sets".
SetCreator — Placing a line in the Set Creator canvas now shows a magnifier loupe with a crosshair, and opening a set shows a loading overlay instead of appearing to do nothing while it loads.
About — Added a Weekly Builds switch next to Auto-Update, visible to anyone whose access code covers weekly builds; turned on, PolyPalette checks both the weekly stream and full releases each time and installs whichever is newer.
Installer — Install Plugin now shows a progress bar and says what it's doing while it works, instead of appearing to do nothing until it finishes.
UI — Tooltips now render in their own floating window instead of being clipped by the main window's edges, wait a full second of holding the pointer still before appearing, and no longer steal keyboard focus while shown.
Fixed
UI — Fixed the Connect screen disappearing on its own a moment after the welcome screen closed; it now closes only when you press its own button.
TrimSheet — When Apply Trim fails, the error message now also names the application, the object, and what was selected, instead of a bare error with no context to go on.
TrimSheet — Fixed Apply Trim crashing in Blender when the whole object was selected while still in Edit Mode.
TrimSheet — Fixed Apply Trim silently skipping material assignment in Blender; it now assigns materials the same way it does in 3ds Max.
TrimSheet — Fixed UV Adjustments' Nudge and Scale sliders feeling sluggish while dragging by re-reading the whole mesh on every tick; Scale now grows or shrinks a strip from its upper edge instead of its centre.
TrimSheet — Fixed the Library's Category, Style and Set fields not refreshing when picking a different Palette swatch or Set, and the window lagging behind during a drag-resize instead of tracking it live.
MCP — Nudge and Scale actions run by an AI assistant can now reach the V axis of a UV adjustment, matching what holding Shift already does when pressed by hand.
ARMode — Fixed Apply Trim and Run Hotspot's bracket-and-reveal effect taking up to nine round trips to the 3D application before appearing; it now shows within the same second as the click.
Hotspot — Run Hotspot now actually works in Blender: preparing face groups, cutting a ring open, and writing the result back were all previously missing, so a run could complete and change nothing. Also fixed groups landing turned or mirrored where several faces meet at a point, groups sometimes coming out empty, and sizes being wrong on any scene not measured in centimetres.
SetCreator — Blender can now generate both kinds of set element picture, a straight cutout and a raised three-quarter view; both used to refuse outright.
UI — Fixed list and grid rows across every tab, including Set Manager and Trim Sheet, sometimes scrambling section order, duplicating tiles, or losing track of your selection when the list changed underneath you.
UI — Fixed the Trim tab, and every other tab, not resizing to the window's actual width.
UI — Fixed the tab you had open at last launch sometimes appearing collapsed to zero width when the app reopened.
UI — Fixed dropdown menus sometimes rendering underneath other panels instead of on top of them.
UI — Fixed the scroll bar jittering while being dragged, and eased the mouse wheel's scroll motion.
UI — Fixed the Connection tab's plugin install and enabled state disagreeing with itself: a plugin whose files were present could show as not installed, refuse to launch, or default to disabled with no explanation; all three now read one consistent, corrected state.
UI — Fixed Connect doing nothing when PolyPalette wasn't already running; pressing Connect now always reloads this session's plugin code fresh instead of reusing whatever was already loaded, and skips creating a duplicate connection when one already exists.
UI — Fixed Connect and Install Plugin doing nothing, while still reporting success, when a 3D application's version was recorded two different ways between PolyPalette and its plugin; both now also log what they're doing and state why whenever they refuse.
UI — Fixed the title bar and footer continuing to name the previous 3D application after switching to a different one.
UI — Fixed tooltips stealing window focus and flashing a taskbar button while shown, drawing over the control they explain and blocking clicks on it, and occasionally staying on screen after the pointer had already moved away.
Options — Fixed the app freezing for the better part of a second, roughly once a second, in any session where the Core Log window had ever been opened.
About — Fixed a newly entered access code unlocking the Experimental menu without the menu actually appearing until the app was restarted.
About — Fixed the version list settling on an older version while the newest sat greyed out, so Updates could offer to install something older than what's already running; also fixed a weekly build with no access code for it staying on that build instead of moving to the current release automatically.
About — Fixed the version number showing twice over (for example "vv0.1.0").
Installer — Fixed Install Plugin losing its whole list of available releases, and reporting no internet connection, after one dropped request instead of falling back to what it already had; fixed Blender never being able to connect to PolyPalette after a fresh install because the plugin looked for settings in the wrong folder; and fixed a leftover startup script from an older install surviving a fresh one.
Startup — Fixed the welcome screen's opening gradient causing a stall of the better part of a second; it's now drawn by the graphics card instead of redrawn by the CPU every frame.
What's New
MCP — Options now has its own MCP section with a Setup Connection Prompt button that hands an AI assistant step-by-step instructions for connecting to PolyPalette, plus a new connection point that lets an IDE or AI assistant reach the app's actions directly.
About — Active access codes now show the name they're registered to, with a mask/reveal toggle to hide them like the licence key.
Hotspot — Run Hotspot now supports holding Shift, Ctrl, or Alt to send the processed faces to a set's Secondary or Tertiary material instead of Primary, the same way a modified trim click already works.
About — The Updates section now lets you pick any published version from the list and install it directly, whether that's moving forward, going back to an older version, or reinstalling the current one; moving forward still needs an active maintenance window.
Startup — The welcome screen's opening animation now sweeps in a two-tone gradient split along the app logo's own diagonal cut, the two halves easing together as a dashed outline of the full mark flashes where they meet.
UI — Refreshed the app icon with new higher-resolution artwork.
About — Installing a different version now explains what it will do first (upgrade, downgrade, or reinstall) and lets you cancel mid-download; versions outside your maintenance window show greyed out and can't be picked, and the Current Version line turns green when you're current or red when you're not.
About — Development builds now show updates as off and never check for or install one.
About — Tidied the Licence section: Activate sits beside the key's reveal toggle, Purchase Licence sits next to Start Trial, and the Licence Required box shows each button only once.
Bug Fixes
Hotspot — Fixed a wrapping shell getting cut into pieces that shared one rectangle instead of each getting their own.
Installer — Install Plugin now reliably finds and fetches the newest published release instead of sometimes finding no file to install.
UI — Fixed the tab rail showing About as selected while the Connection page was actually the one on screen.
TrimSheet — Fixed Apply Trim and planar-project sometimes assigning faces to the wrong material slot on objects with multiple materials.
Hotspot — Fixed Run Hotspot sometimes assigning faces to the wrong material slot on objects with multiple materials.
Options — Fixed the Options tab defaulting to the wrong side of the tab rail and showing a red warning-style accent instead of neutral grey.
UI — When a DCC's plugin is out of date, PolyPalette now offers a one-time dialog to update it and still lets most actions proceed instead of silently refusing every button press, and shows the DCC's real name (3ds Max, Blender) instead of its raw internal name throughout the app.
