JadeSpectrogram2 v2.4.6
What's new since 2.4.3
2.4.6: scrolling display fixed
- The spectrogram image could be shifted against the time axis and the BPM grid when the window was not redrawn after every update (e.g. a covered window or throttled drawing). It stayed wrong until a setting changed. Now the image is always exact.
2.4.5: about box fixed
- The plugin window could open with the about box showing (an uninitialised value). Now it only opens with a click on the logo.
2.4.4
- Source code tidied up, no change in function. The plugin now has 22 automated tests (
tester/pluginTests, run withctest).
Details in the manual (in the zip and in docs/), release notes in its appendix.
Downloads for Windows, macOS (Universal: Apple Silicon and Intel) and Linux.
Each zip contains the VST3 plugin and the Standalone application (macOS also the AU plugin),
the manual, a ReadMeFirst.txt and the license files (source code: MIT; binaries: AGPLv3, because of JUCE).
Installation: copy the plugin into the standard folder of your system
(Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, macOS: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 and
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components, Linux: ~/.vst3).
macOS: the binaries are not signed with an Apple Developer ID yet. If macOS says the
plugin is damaged or cannot be opened, remove the quarantine flag in the Terminal, e.g.
xattr -cr ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/JadeSpectrogram2.vst3.

JadeSpectrogram2 v2.4.3
What's new since 2.4.0
2.4.3: BPM grid fixes (found with Cubase)
- The bar line at the loop start was sometimes missing in cycle mode: the host jumps back to the loop start in the middle of an audio block, and the grid skipped the column with the jump. The plugin now reads the loop points from the host and knows the exact jump; lines also appear where play starts and after a locate.
- No grid while the transport is stopped (synced mode), also with audio block sizes that do not divide the analysis hop -- before, a wrong grid could appear.
2.4.2
- Source code tidied up, no change in function.
2.4.1: faster drawing
- The BPM grid needs about 90 % less drawing time (at 1/16 with everything on, a frame takes about 30 % less time at the default size); the colour bar is cached. The display looks the same.

JadeSpectrogram2 v2.4.0
What's new since 2.0.0
2.4.0: peak readout and harmonic cursor
- The crosshair readout has a second line with the peak: the strongest maximum in the note band of the mouse (±50 cents), interpolated between the bins, with frequency, note, deviation in cents and level. A small white dot marks it. The first line stays the value under the mouse.
- Harmonic cursor: hold Shift for dashed lines at 2, 3, 4, … times the frequency of the peak (or of the mouse), numbered next to the crosshair.
2.3.0: reference pitch and cents
- Reference pitch A4 from 380 to 480 Hz (default 440), the drag box with the tuning fork below the frequency axis. The keyboard overlay and the crosshair note follow it, e.g. 415 Hz for baroque pitch or 442 Hz for the orchestra.
- The crosshair shows the deviation in cents from the note, e.g.
441 Hz | A4 +4 ct | -51.8 dB.
2.2.0: BPM grid with free tempo
- New button: synced to the host tempo (chain) or free (broken chain) with your own tempo. In free mode, drag the BPM value (Shift: fine), use the mouse wheel or double-click to type. Alt+click in the display puts a bar line there. Works paused, with a stopped transport and in the Standalone. For tempo analysis of any recording.
- Synced: the BPM value follows the host tempo also while stopped or paused; while paused, a changed host tempo redraws the grid.
2.1.0: overview button
- Overview button (lower right corner): frequency, time and colour range back to their full range.
- The export button moved to the bottom row; the grid resolution box is wider (1/16 is readable).
2.0.1: grid resolution in note values
- The BPM grid resolution now means note values per bar, as in a DAW: 1 = bars only, 1/4 = every quarter note (every beat in 4/4), 1/16 = every sixteenth note (before, it divided the beat). Default 1/4.
All settings are saved with the project; the new ones are not automatable. Details in the manual (in the zip and in docs/), release notes in its appendix.
