Android: on-screen controls and controllers on more phones
Two players saw the intro play with no on-screen controls, and their Bluetooth controllers (an Xbox Series X controller, an 8BitDo Ultimate 2) did nothing. Many phones list one of their own parts as a gamepad: the device their fingerprint reader or side buttons send keys through declares gamepad buttons. The app counted it as a controller and hid the on-screen controls, and it was also opened first, as player 1's controller, so a real controller went in as player 2's, which the game does not read.
A device now counts as a controller only if it has a stick, or a d-pad that reports as one. On those phones the on-screen controls show, and a controller connected to them is player 1's. The log (Android/data/com.jumatt.jsrfunleashed/files/Logs/last-run.log) now says what the app made of each device Android calls a gamepad, and whether the on-screen controls are showing: if your phone still misbehaves, those [PAD] lines are what to send.
Tested in the Android emulator with a stand-in for such a phone part, there from the start, and a controller connected 20 seconds in that pressed Start and A. With 0.4.6 the on-screen controls were missing and the controller did nothing; with 0.4.7 the controls showed, went away when the controller connected, and the controller started the game.
The APK installs over the previous one. Only the Android download is new: the others are 0.4.6's, unchanged (0.4.6 fixed the black city in the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park on every platform).
Everything else is in the changelog, and installation instructions are in the README.

The black city in the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park
A player on a Steam Deck saw his character in these areas and nothing else: the whole city around him was black. These areas switch the console's fog on (black, from 300 to 3000 units away), and the engine got fog wrong for the scenery, which the game draws with the console's fixed-function transform: every one of its vertices was given a fog factor of zero, which paints it entirely in the fog colour. Black fog, black city.
Three other areas, whose fog is coloured, had the same bug in their own colour: they came out as a flat wall of pinkish brown or olive, with the characters and a few objects standing in it.
Fog is now worked out the way the console does it: each vertex's distance from the camera, measured the way the game asks, becomes a fog factor through the fog mode and the start and end distances the game sets. Distant buildings fade into the night or the haze as they should, and the scenery the game draws with its own vertex programs, which never faded at all before, fades too.
Tested in Pharaoh Park with the Mac build on OpenGL, the renderer of the Linux and Windows builds, and on Metal, and in the iPhone Simulator, which also went through one mission in each of 13 areas: no crash, no shader that failed to compile, the three areas with a coloured fog drawn as they should be, and the areas without fog exactly as before.
Every download is 0.4.6
All five are built from the same tag, and the renderer is the same code on every platform. On iPhone, AltStore and SideStore show 0.4.6 in My Apps as an update if you installed from the JSRF Unleashed source. On Android, the APK installs over the previous one.
Everything else is in the changelog, and installation instructions are in the README.

The crash at the third tank in Chuo Street
A player's log showed the game crashing every time he tagged his third tank in Chuo Street. The tanks' sound function was one of 27 functions of the game that the translation had never found: their addresses appear only as constants in the game's code, which neither the recompiler nor the later scans of the game's tables looked at. Each call to it was skipped, and each skip left the stack 8 bytes off; at the third tank, a tank routine came back 16 bytes off and the game crashed. All 27 are translated now, on every platform.
17 of them are sound functions, one for each of 17 kinds of objects, the tanks among them: whatever sounds they start never played before this release.
A call into code that was never translated is still skipped, but it now leaves the stack the way the calling code expects, so another missing function would cost a sound rather than the game. The log names each one in full four times, then once every thousand calls.
Tested by jumping straight into the tank fight and skating toward the tanks with the same script on 0.4.4 and 0.4.5. In the iPhone Simulator, 0.4.4 skipped the tanks' sound function 793 times; 0.4.5 skipped nothing, started 329 sounds against 211 and did not crash. The same run with the Mac build: nothing skipped, 327 sounds, no crash. The third tank itself has not been reached in a test yet: if you play through that fight, a report either way helps (with last-run.log).
Every download is 0.4.5
Windows (after 0.4.2), Android (after 0.4.3) and iPhone (after 0.4.4), and the Mac and Linux downloads, which were still 0.2.0's and 0.3.1's: they have every change since that applies to them, on Linux the faster renderer from 0.4.2 among them.
On iPhone, AltStore and SideStore show 0.4.5 in My Apps as an update if you installed from the JSRF Unleashed source. On Android, the APK installs over the previous one; it was run in the emulator over 0.4.3, as an update.
Everything else is in the changelog, and installation instructions are in the README.
JSRF Unleashed 0.4.4
Jet Set Radio Future, natively on Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. You need your own copy of the game (the USA release): these downloads are the engine only.

iPhone: Fill the screen
At 16:9 the game has black bars at both ends of an iPhone's screen, which is about 19.5:9. The new ⚙ › Picture › Fill the screen widens the view to the screen's own shape: the city reaches both edges, and the menus and the HUD keep their shape in the middle. 16:9 stays the default, and the console's 4:3 is the third choice. The title screen stays 4:3 in all three. An iPad's screen is narrower than 16:9, so there Fill the screen is the same as 16:9.
The picture is a new setting: if you had switched widescreen off, the app starts at 16:9 once after the update. Pick 4:3 in ⚙ › Picture to have it back.
iPhone: a stability fix
The other versions have always had a repair for registers that some of the game's translated functions fail to preserve; without it a long session can crash. It was never switched on in the iPhone app, and it is now, from the start: the first line of Logs/last-run.log says so.
Updating
If you installed from the JSRF Unleashed source, AltStore and SideStore show 0.4.4 in My Apps as an update: tap Update (with AltServer reachable, as for a refresh). It installs over the app and keeps the game and your saves. With Sideloadly, install the new .ipa the way you installed the first one.
The changes have been run in the iOS Simulator (an iPhone 16 Pro). Reports from phones are welcome: open an issue with Logs/last-run.log and your iPhone's model.
Unchanged
The Windows download is the 0.4.2 build, the Android download the 0.4.3 build, the Linux download the 0.3.1 build and the Mac download the 0.2.0 build; each still calls itself by that version.
Everything else is in the changelog, and installation instructions are in the README.
JSRF Unleashed 0.4.3

Android: the faster renderer
The renderer changes from 0.4.2, now in the Android app: geometry that does not change stays on the graphics chip between frames instead of being converted and sent again every frame, and the game's constants are sent only when they change. On a phone, where moving memory around costs the most, that was most of the renderer's own work in the busy scenes.
It installs over 0.4.0 and keeps the game and your saves. It has been run in the Android emulator, not yet on a phone: reports are welcome — open an issue with Android/data/com.jumatt.jsrfunleashed/files/Logs/last-run.log and your phone's model.
Unchanged
The Windows download is the 0.4.2 build, the Linux download the 0.3.1 build, and the Mac and iPhone downloads are the 0.2.0 builds; each still calls itself by that version. AltStore keeps offering 0.2.0.

Windows: controllers, a Video menu, a faster renderer
- Xbox controllers work. An Xbox pad was found but its input never reached the game. It does now, and a pad plugged in while the game runs is picked up too.
- A Video menu at the top of the window: the resolution (1× to 4×), widescreen and full screen. It is hidden in full screen, where F9, F10 and F11 still work.
- F9 in full screen no longer looks like a hang. Its box was hidden behind the game until Alt+F4 closed it, so the resolution never changed; the game now leaves full screen while the box is up.
- A faster renderer. Geometry that does not change stays on the graphics card between frames instead of being converted and sent again every frame, and the game's constants are sent only when they change. That leaves more of each frame to the game, which matters most in the busy scenes.
If something is wrong on your PC — a pad that does nothing, a slow scene — please open an issue with your %LOCALAPPDATA%\JSRF Unleashed\last-run.log, your graphics card and, for a pad, which one: the log lists the input devices the game sees ([PAD] lines).

Windows: smoother frames
Each frame now reaches the screen in step with the display, and the game is paced to the display's refresh: on a 60 Hz screen (and on 120 or 240 Hz ones) each frame is shown once. Before, the game's clock and the display's drifted apart, and every few seconds one frame stayed up twice and the next was skipped — a small, regular stutter.
If it still stutters on your PC, please open an issue with your %LOCALAPPDATA%\JSRF Unleashed\last-run.log, your graphics card and your screen's refresh rate: the log now says every 10 seconds how many frames were shown and how long each stayed on screen.

New: Android
- Download the APK on your phone and open it. It is not on Google Play, so Android asks you to allow installing apps from your browser or file manager.
- Open JSRF Unleashed and choose your disc image (
.iso): the app unpacks it once (about 3 GB of free space). Or copy the extracted game folder (withdefault.xbeandMediain it) from a computer over USB, namedgame, intoAndroid/data/com.jumatt.jsrfunleashed/files/. - Play with a controller (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and others, over Bluetooth or USB) or with the on-screen controls. The ⚙ button has widescreen, the on-screen controls and the resolution.
Saves are kept in the game folder (UDATA): uninstalling the app deletes them, so copy UDATA somewhere first.
It has been run in the Android emulator only so far (unpacking a disc image, boot, title, attract demo, the controls and the settings), not yet on a phone. Reports are welcome: open an issue with Android/data/com.jumatt.jsrfunleashed/files/Logs/last-run.log and your phone's model.

New
- Windows. Unzip it anywhere and run
JSRF Unleashed.exe. It is not signed, so the first time Windows may say it protected your PC: click More info, then Run anyway. Then pick the folder withdefault.xbein it, or the folder your disc image (.iso) is in, which it unpacks once. Controllers work through SDL (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and many more), and the keyboard has the same layout as on the Mac. It is the same engine and OpenGL renderer as the Linux build, and needs OpenGL 3.3 drivers. Tested under Wine; reports from Windows PCs are welcome. - Resolution and widescreen on Windows and Linux. F9 sets the resolution, from 1× to 4× the Xbox's 640×480 (up to 2560×1920). The game restarts to apply it, so save first. F10 switches widescreen 16:9, a wider view rather than a stretch, and F11 (or Alt+Enter) full screen. The resolution and widescreen are remembered.
Linux
Rebuilt for F9; nothing else changes for Linux. (For the first hour after this release went up, the Linux download was still the 0.2.0 build.)
Unchanged
The Mac and iPhone downloads are the 0.2.0 builds, unchanged (they still call themselves 0.2.0), and AltStore keeps offering 0.2.0.
Docs
Saves are kept in the game folder, in UDATA, on every platform. The README said otherwise. Copy that folder to back up your progress, and keep it if you replace the game files.
The full list is in the changelog. Installation instructions are in the README.
