0.1.1 fixes the Linux build: after New Game it stayed on "Now Loading" for good — the game asks for its files in a different case from the one on the disc, which Linux, unlike macOS, cares about. The Mac app is the same as in 0.1.0.

Jet Set Radio Future, statically recompiled and running natively — on Apple Silicon Macs and on Linux.

You need your own copy of the game — the USA release. These downloads are the engine only: no game files, no textures, music or video.

macOS — JSRF-Unleashed-macOS-arm64.zip

  1. Download it, unzip, and move JSRF Unleashed to Applications.
  2. Open it. The app is not notarised by Apple, so the first time macOS says it cannot check it: click Done, then System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway. (macOS 13 or earlier: right-click the app › Open.) Needed once.
  3. Pick the folder with your extracted game (the one containing default.xbe), or a disc image (.iso) if extract-xiso is installed.

Requires macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or later).

Linux (new) — JSRF-Unleashed-linux-x86_64.tar.gz

x86_64 with glibc 2.34 or later (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 and newer), OpenGL 3.3 drivers, an X11 or Wayland desktop. Extract it anywhere and run ./jsrf-unleashed; the first time it asks for your game folder. README.txt inside has the options. F11 full screen, F10 widescreen.

The Linux build is new and far less played than the Mac one: in testing it boots, runs the menus and starts a new game. Reports welcome.

What works

  • New Game through the tutorial, the DJ K scene and Dogenzaka Hill — the part played and tested most (on the Mac)
  • Skating, grinding, tricks, graffiti, the pause map
  • Music, sound effects and voices
  • Saving and loading
  • Controllers (Xbox, DualSense, DualShock 4…) and the keyboard
  • Widescreen 16:9 with a wider view (Mac: Video › Widescreen, ⇧⌘W; Linux: F10); the title screen stays 4:3

Known issues

  • Later areas are little tested — expect bugs. Please report them with the last-run.log (Mac: in your game folder; Linux: ~/.local/state/jsrf-unleashed/).
  • An occasional "disc error" screen during a load.
  • A 1-pixel dark line along the right edge.
