New

  • Keyboard and mouse. A layout like the original Bayonetta on PC: W A S D to move, the mouse for the camera, left / right mouse to punch and kick, Space to jump, left Shift to dodge, left Alt to lock on, Q for Umbran Climax, Esc to pause. They work alongside a controller. Keyboard and mouse... in the launcher rebinds any action (two keys or mouse buttons each) and sets the mouse sensitivity. Input can lock the game to the keyboard and mouse only, or to the controller only.
  • Mods, as on the Switch emulators. Put mods for the Switch version into a mods\ folder beside B2recomp.exe and switch them on or off with Mods... in the launcher. Texture, model and sound mods (romfs) work at the next start. Code mods (.pchtxt, .ips) are built into the game: Apply (rebuild) takes about a minute, with the game closed.
  • PlayStation or Xbox button pictures. Choose them under Button prompts after adding Timo654’s Controller Prompts Replacement (DS4/XBOX) (GameBanana 360121, Switch version) to mods. On Auto, the game shows the buttons of the controller you play with.
  • Frame rate (beta): 60 to 120 fps. A launcher slider. Above 60 the game shows more frames per second at its normal speed: its clock follows the real frame time and its main timers are converted. This is experimental: some effects, menus and button-mash prompts may still run faster, and cinematics run at the chosen rate. 60 is the default and the game exactly as made.
  • A step-by-step guide for new players in the README.

Fixed

  • Character shadows were missing or collapsed (most visible when looking down), and the automatic exposure did not adapt. The game reads some of its rendered images back on the CPU to place its shadows and to measure brightness; those images now reach it, without the game waiting for the graphics card.
  • Included from v0.1.1 and v0.1.2: games without the system fonts no longer stop at start, and AMD Radeon RX 400 / 500 cards use a fallback path.

How to use

  1. Unzip B2recomp-builder-247617b.zip into a new folder.
  2. Start B2recomp.exe, choose your dump folder and press Build (about 5 minutes on a 16-thread PC).
  3. When the build is done, choose your settings and press Play.
Optional: This is a question for people on Linux, will you try and load this through steam/proton or wine and make a issue on the repo so I can know if this works or not

Updating from v0.1.x: to keep your saves, copy the build\play\userdata folder from your old B2recomp folder into the new one after the build. You can copy the old folder’s config\graphics.ini over too; set the controls again in the launcher (an old controllers.ini would keep the old keyboard keys).

Windows SmartScreen may warn about B2recomp.exe because it is not signed: choose “More info”, then “Run anyway”.

Status

  • Tested on one Windows 11 PC with an NVIDIA GPU. Later chapters, AMD and Intel GPUs and Windows 10 are not fully tested yet. Expect bugs; please report them on the Issues page (never attach game files).
