B2 Recomp v0.2.1: AMD fixes
Pre-release
Pre-release
Fixed
- The game stopped at start with error code 6 on an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (
vkCreateGraphicsPipelines ... VK_ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILEDin the log). The graphics driver refused to prepare one of the game's shaders, and the game treated that as fatal. Now that shader is prepared another way; if the driver refuses that too, only what is drawn with it is left out, and the game goes on. The log then has aTHE DRIVER REFUSEDline: please report it, with your GPU and driver version, so the shader can be fixed properly. - Flickering (tearing) on AMD cards, reported on an RX 560. AMD's Windows driver lacks the presentation mode the game used for smooth, tear-free frames, so the picture tore through the middle of the screen. The game now uses the driver's vertical sync instead whenever that mode is missing. Vertical sync in the launcher works as before; Off still allows tearing for the lowest latency. Nothing changes on NVIDIA cards.
- ** Side note Nvidia cards have had no reported issue so far which is what this was originally developed for so AMD cards are bound to encounter issues and bugs.
How to use
- Unzip
B2recomp-builder-781e756.zipinto a new folder. - Start
B2recomp.exe, choose your dump folder and press Build (about 5 minutes on a 16-thread PC). - When the build is done, choose your settings and press Play.
Updating from v0.2.0: copy the build\play\userdata folder (your saves) and the config folder (your settings and controls) from your old B2recomp folder into the new one after the build.
Status
- Tested on one Windows 11 PC with an NVIDIA GPU; the AMD fixes were checked there by simulating the AMD driver's behaviour, and are not yet confirmed on the AMD cards themselves. Logs from AMD players (
build\play\stdout.txt) are very welcome. Please report problems on the Issues page (never attach game files).
