Installing a Mod
This is the normal desktop workflow for most users.
Make sure you have:
- the mod folder or its
tslpatchdatafolder - the correct KOTOR game folder
- permission to edit the game files
If you launch KPatcher from inside a valid mod folder, it may detect that mod automatically.
Use the first box to select the mod you want to install.
KPatcher accepts either:
- the mod's main folder, if it contains a
tslpatchdatafolder - the
tslpatchdatafolder itself
If the mod contains more than one install option, the first box will show a list of namespaces. In plain language, that usually means "different install choices from the same mod package."
Use the ? button if you want to see the description for the currently selected namespace.
Use the second box to choose your KOTOR install folder.
KPatcher tries to detect common install locations automatically, but you can always browse manually.
The game folder must be the real game directory, not just a random folder that contains the installer. If KPatcher cannot find the needed game files, it will stop before patching.
When you choose a namespace, the large panel usually shows the mod's own instructions file.
If the mod did not include usable instructions, KPatcher may show an error message in that area instead.
You can also click the small magnifier button near Start Patching to switch from the instructions view to a configuration summary. That summary is a dry-run style report showing which config files and patch categories the mod intends to use.
Click Start Patching when both the mod and game folder are selected.
KPatcher may show:
- a general "start patching" confirmation
- a second mod-specific confirmation if the mod itself requires one
This is normal.
During installation, KPatcher updates the progress bar and writes messages to the log.
At the end, it shows a final message based on the result:
- success
- success with warnings
- success with errors
- success with both warnings and errors
Warnings do not always mean the install is unusable, but they should not be ignored.
- Review the log if anything looks wrong.
- Check the mod's own instructions again if the install required extra manual steps.
- Look for
installlog.txtin the mod folder if you want a saved copy of the log. - If a mod created backups, KPatcher can use those later during uninstall.
