Troubleshooting
This page covers the most common problems in plain language.
Make sure you selected:
- the mod folder that contains
tslpatchdata - or the
tslpatchdatafolder itself
If the folder does not contain the expected config files, KPatcher cannot load it.
Choose the real KOTOR game installation folder.
If you point KPatcher at the wrong place, it can stop because required game files are missing.
That usually means the mod includes multiple install options.
Try these in order:
- Click the
?button for the selected namespace. - Read the instructions shown in the main panel.
- Check the mod's own release page or readme if the names are still unclear.
Some mods do not include a usable instructions file.
When that happens, KPatcher may show a warning or an error instead of a formatted instruction page.
This does not always mean the mod is broken, but it does mean you should look for the mod author's instructions elsewhere before continuing.
Use the magnifier button next to Start Patching to show the configuration summary.
That report is a read-only view. It helps you inspect the chosen config before installing.
Open the Tools menu and use the permission-fixing option if the app cannot write where it needs to.
Use this carefully. It changes file or folder permissions.
The Tools menu also includes a case-sensitivity fix. This is there for the specific situations where a mod or platform has filename-case problems.
Uninstall needs the backup data created earlier.
If KPatcher says no backup directory was found, there is nothing it can restore automatically.
If you are on Linux without a real graphical desktop session, KPatcher may refuse to launch the GUI.
In cloud or remote Linux sessions, a display variable such as DISPLAY may be required. If you do not have a usable desktop session, use the CLI instead.
KPatcher writes installlog.txt in the mod folder.
This is often the first file to keep when you need help from a mod author or community support server.
