The simplest, fastest way to turn what you're studying into Anki flashcards. Drop something in, get a clean .apkg deck back.
2anki started as a Notion → Anki toggle-list converter. v2 is the version where it grew into a full bridge between whatever you study and Anki — Notion, PDFs, slides, photos, e-books, mind maps, other flashcard apps — with an AI card generator, in-browser editors, and one-tap delivery to your own Anki. It's still free to start, still open source, still self-hostable, and still funded by the people who use it rather than investors.
Here's everything v2 brings.
Bring in anything you study
2anki now reads far more than Notion pages:
- Notion — connect via the API or drop an HTML export. Toggle lists become cards, cloze deletions work out of the box, and tables convert one row per card (column 1 front, column 2 back). For databases with more than two columns, pick which column is the front and which is the back. A preview shows exactly which blocks will become cards before you convert, with clickable sub-pages.
- PDF — drop a PDF and each pair of pages becomes a card, front and back. Password-protected PDFs convert too — type the password during upload, no third-party tools.
- PowerPoint — slides, bullets, and speaker notes all reach the card generator. GoodNotes PDFs work as well.
- Markdown, HTML, Excel (xlsx), and zip bundles — the originals, still here.
- Outlines — upload
.opmlor.brainstorms.jsonand turn an outline into a deck. - E-books and Kindle — drop a Kindle
My Clippings.txtor a DRM-free EPUB and get a vocabulary deck back in English, German, Spanish, or French. - Other flashcard apps — moving from Quizlet, Lingvist, StudyStack, or Zorbi? Export a CSV and upload it here.
An AI that turns notes into real cards
The AI converter is the heart of v2 — Claude, tuned for flashcards, not a generic chatbot:
- Pick the card style before converting — cloze, question-and-answer, basic + reverse, or multiple choice.
- Control the depth — Short, Medium, or Detailed steers how much each card holds. For images, choose Sparse, Balanced, or Dense to control how many cards come back.
- Map the fields — tell the AI exactly what goes on each card field.
- Auto-tagging — generated cards arrive pre-tagged with 1–3 topic tags so you can filter your deck the moment it lands in Anki.
- Smarter extraction — duplicate cards from section boundaries are removed automatically, so a single upload yields more usable cards.
- Chat — paste up to 100,000 characters, pick a note type, and generate; change the type and your cards regenerate in place. Tags survive a reload and ship with the download.
Photo to Deck
Point your camera at the material and get cards back:
- Drop a photo of a textbook page, a lecture slide, or handwritten notes — or tap Take a photo on mobile to capture and convert in one step.
- Choose a card count and whether to generate new cards or copy existing questions.
- The source image rides along on the back of each card by default, so you study against the original — or uncheck to skip it.
- Large, high-resolution photos are handled gracefully. Free plan: 5 photos a month.
Mind maps
A full mind-map editor in your browser that exports straight to Anki:
- Build a tree — double-click the canvas to drop a node, drag from any side to connect, snap-to-grid alignment, and a Tidy layout button (Ctrl/Cmd+L) to clean it up.
- Markdown in node labels, resizable nodes, paste or drop an image into any node, rename inline.
- Export as cloze cards (one card per path, each node tested in sequence) or as a single Whole map card that renders the entire tree as one interactive, offline card in Anki.
- Works on phones — pan the map, edit nodes, and download the deck on the go.
Faithful to Anki
A deck is only useful if it looks right in Anki:
- Cloze stays clickable; images, audio, embeds, code blocks, and LaTeX carry over.
- Pick the note type — Basic, Basic + Reverse, Cloze, or Multiple choice.
- Turn on Audio in Card options and Anki reads Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cards aloud.
- Preview your deck inside 2anki first — interactive cards, dark mode, full-height rendering — so there are no surprises after import.
- Every Format page shows exactly what carries into Anki before you commit.

How v2 was built
Every change that touches what you see goes through a product trio — three AI agents (PM, Designer, Engineer) working in parallel, with Alexander as the human in the loop setting direction, approving specs, and merging. It's how a two-week stretch shipped photo-to-deck, mind maps, the AI chat converter, e-book and PowerPoint support, Apple and magic-link sign-in, and dozens of smaller refinements without the wheels coming off.
