Memory that ages well

Search that finds exact names, facts with dates, summaries, entities in the graph, and a review that suggests fixes without touching anything.

NEW

• Hybrid search. search_knowledge combines semantic search with an exact-keyword index (SQLite FTS5, BM25) merged by reciprocal rank fusion. Proper names, IDs, dates and numbers now show up. If Chroma or Ollama is down, keyword search keeps working.
• Facts over time. Each memory is saved with its date. add_memory(fact, category, supersede=old) moves the old fact to a ## Historial section instead of leaving both. New tool memory_history(category).
• Summaries. Pages over 800 words (and long connection results) get a short abstract from your local chat model; list_sources() returns it.
• Entities in the graph. Sources, captures and memory files get an entities list. Notes that name the same person or project connect through a new Entity node type.
• distill_skill(topic). Gathers everything brain has on a topic so your agent writes a skill from it.
• Reflect (Profile tab). Finds duplicates, likely contradictions and notes without entities, and shows the tool call that would fix each one. It never writes.
• reindex_keyword_search() and a Rebuild keyword index button, for sources saved before this version.
• Documentation site (Docs) and this changelog.
• SECURITY.md with how to report vulnerabilities privately.
• Settings is now a full view: the installed version with a Check for updates button (the gear turns green when a new version is out), sidebar order and visibility, the default chat model, and graph colors.

CHANGED

• The dashboard sidebar header shows just the logo and the name, aligned on one row.
• The website header keeps only the GitHub logo next to the section tabs; Docs, Changelog and GitHub moved to the footer.
• The license is split in two files, LICENSE (MIT) and COMMONS-CLAUSE.md, so GitHub detects it. The terms don't change.

UPGRADE NOTES

Run Rebuild keyword index once (Knowledge tab) so older sources are found by keyword.
Summaries and entities need a chat model: ollama pull llama3.2. Without it they're skipped.

What's new

1. Chat: a new tab where a local Ollama model talks to you with your profile, memory, BRAIN.md and related past chats as context. It gets the same tools as your agents, so it can look things up, save memories and add or edit notes (every change is versioned). Chats are saved in Chroma, and Floating window pops the chat out into an always-on-top window (Chrome, Edge and Arc; a regular pop-up elsewhere). If you have no chat model yet, one click downloads llama3.2.
2. Settings: a gear next to theme and language lets you give each graph node type its own color, so Brain, Profile, Memory, Projects, Skills, Sources, Notes, Folders and Tags are easy to tell apart.
3. Collapsible sidebar: collapse it to a narrow rail of icons from the button in the logo row.
4. My connections now lists apps where you added brain with an "Add MCP server" form (detected the first time they use brain), plus apps you note by hand.
5. Website: chat mention and a support widget.
6. License change: Starting with this version, brain is licensed under MIT + Commons Clause. You can still use, study, modify and share it for free, including at work, but you may not sell it: charging third parties for a product or service (hosting, support or consulting included) whose value comes entirely or substantially from brain. v0.01.0 and earlier stay under plain MIT.

What's in it

• Local MCP server with a Markdown vault: profile, memory, projects, skills, and saved web pages, plus version history and restore for every change.
• Semantic search with local embeddings (Ollama nomic-embed-text) and a shared Chroma server. save_url scrapes with trafilatura and falls back to Playwright for JavaScript-heavy sites.
• Memory import from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini through a copy-paste prompt, turned into memory cards linked to your profile.
• Connect agent in one click: Claude Desktop, ChatGPT (Codex / Work modes), Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code (Copilot), Windsurf, Gemini CLI, or any local MCP client through manual config.
• Connections: brain as an MCP client. It proxies other MCP servers (local command, URL, or Composio), each can be switched on or off, and their results are auto-captured into your memory and search.
• Dashboard (brain): services, stats, profile and memory, agents, connections, knowledge graph, search, logs. English and Spanish, light and dark.
