Character model specs
The character model will be divided into three modules:
- Head
- Torso
- Legs
Each module should be able to be swapped out with other modules of the same type. For example, the head module should be able to be swapped out with other head modules. The same goes for the torso and legs.
The model should be centred at the origin of the world space. Each module should account for the space of the other modules. For example, the head module should be positioned at the top of where the torso module would be. The torso module should be positioned at the top of where the legs module would be.
The clothing modules should include the body parts that they cover. For example, a hat module should include the head. In the case of modules with a separate mesh, e.g. a hat, the module should include the head and the hat as separate meshes.
The model should not be rigged. Instead, we will animate the model by stretching and squashing the parent object of the modules. For example, to make the character jump, we will stretch the parent object upwards as it jumps and then squash it back down when it lands.
