Release list
WinHookAudio 0.1.3
WinHookAudio 0.1.3: an ASIO driver for your DAW with hardware devices, virtual cables, ASIO Bridges and LAN audio, set up in a native Control Panel.
Pre-release. The Virtual Cable kernel driver (
WinHookAudio.sys) is experimental and only test-signed. The setup program has not yet been tested through a full install and uninstall on a clean PC. Please try it on a test PC first.
What's new
- Your sound card's own ASIO driver as a device. In the Control Panel, the Source menu (Hardware) and the GENERAL device lists now show your installed ASIO drivers under ASIO drivers. Pick one like any other device: as output #1 it drives the Master Clock; its inputs feed your slots. The GENERAL row has a Driver settings button that opens the driver's own settings.
- One ASIO driver at a time (another card can still open through Windows).
- The driver is set to the Master Clock's rate; the buffer size comes from GENERAL "Hardware" (Auto = the size set in the driver's settings).
- Tested live with FL Studio ASIO (64-bit and 32-bit) on a virtual machine. Not yet tested with a real ASIO audio interface: please report how your card works.
- 0.1.2 (for those who skipped it): 44.1 to 192 kHz Master Clock (also from the DAW's rate menu), 16 Virtual Cables.
Download
WinHookAudio-Setup-0.1.3.exe (Windows 10 1709+ / 11; x64, 32-bit and ARM64 DAWs)
Install
- Run the setup.
- On Components, choose the Virtual Cable:
- Not signed: test-signed driver: setup trusts the test certificate and turns on Windows Test Mode. Secure Boot must be off. Restart when asked.
- No Virtual Cable: the ASIO Master, the Bridges, hardware devices (Windows and ASIO) and the network work without Test Mode.
- In your DAW, choose WinHookAudio Master as the ASIO device.
Uninstalling removes the device and the driver. It turns Test Mode off only if setup turned it on.
More details: docs/installing.md and ADR 0018.
Tips
- Through an ASIO driver, run the Master Clock at a rate the card runs natively. A driver that converts the rate itself (as FL Studio ASIO does for a device at another rate) calls back unevenly, which can cause dropouts.
- At 176.4 or 192 kHz, use a buffer of 512 or more.
Known limits
- No Microsoft-signed driver yet, so the Virtual Cable needs Test Mode.
- A short dropout is still possible on a busy or virtual machine.
- With a Shared device as output #1 (the clock), an Exclusive input can still resample now and then. For recording, keep output #1 Exclusive.
- Tested on a virtual machine only, not yet on physical audio hardware, a real ARM PC or a real 32-bit DAW. The Virtual Cable driver is not available on ARM yet.
- The ASIO drivers are built without the Steinberg ASIO SDK (the project's own
common/WHAAsio.h).

WinHookAudio v0.1.2
WinHookAudio 0.1.2: an ASIO driver for your DAW with hardware devices, virtual cables, ASIO Bridges and LAN audio, set up in a native Control Panel.
Pre-release. The Virtual Cable kernel driver (
WinHookAudio.sys) is experimental and only test-signed. The new 16-cable driver builds and passes the offline checks, but has not yet been installed and tested live. The setup program has not yet been tested through a full install and uninstall on a clean PC. Please try it on a test PC first.
What's new
- More sample rates: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz. Your DAW's own sample rate menu now works too: picking a rate there sets the Master Clock.
- 16 Virtual Cables (was 8):
WinHookAudio Output 9..16andInput 9..16in Windows. Settings from 0.1.1 still load (the new cables start as stereo). More cables do not add delay: each cable has its own buffer, and a cable nothing uses costs nothing. - One app at a time: only one app can use WinHookAudio Master. A second app gets a message naming the app that has it. Bridges are not affected.
- 32-bit DAWs: the Master and Bridges now also work in 32-bit DAWs.
- Windows on ARM: ARM64 DAWs and x64 DAWs running on ARM PCs are supported (built and tested in CI only, not yet on a real ARM PC). The Virtual Cable driver is not available on ARM yet.

More details: docs/installing.md and ADR 0017.
Tips
- At 176.4 or 192 kHz, use a buffer of 512 or more. 128 frames at 192 kHz is only 0.67 ms, too short for most PCs.
Known limits
- No Microsoft-signed driver yet, so the Virtual Cable needs Test Mode.

WinHookAudio 0.1.1 (pre-release)
WinHookAudio 0.1.1: an ASIO driver for your DAW with hardware devices, virtual cables, ASIO Bridges and LAN audio, set up in a native Control Panel. Replaces 0.1.0.
Pre-release. The Virtual Cable kernel driver (
WinHookAudio.sys) is experimental and only test-signed. The setup program has not yet been tested through a full install and uninstall on a clean PC. Please try it on a test PC first.
What's new
- More hardware devices: up to 128 output and 128 input devices, each with all its channels (not only stereo).
- Device mode: each hardware device can open as Exclusive (lowest latency, the DAW owns the device), Shared (through the Windows mixer, other apps keep playing) or Auto (Exclusive, else Shared). Set it in the Control Panel, GENERAL.
- Fewer dropouts at start: hardware inputs and extra outputs wait until the clock is steady (about 1 second), so they no longer drop out or grow their latency at start.
- Shared output as the clock device: steadier clock, Shared inputs no longer run dry, and the output latency reported to the DAW is right.
