EraSwitch Switch your Windows 11 desktop to a Windows XP look and back with one click. See the README for setup.
What's new in 0.1.1 (2026-10-21)
Added
- The setup.exe has a "Helper programs" page: it finds out whether RetroBar and Open-Shell are installed and offers to install the missing ones with winget.
- EraSwitch offers the same install the first time it starts (for the MSI, portable and Scoop installs), and whenever you switch while a helper is missing, instead of only showing an error.
- After installing a helper, EraSwitch stops anything its installer started and turns off Open-Shell's autostart, so neither takes over the Windows 11 taskbar or Start menu until you switch.
Fixed
- RetroBar is also found in a custom install folder (through its uninstall entry) and on ARM64, where winget installs it as a portable app behind a link.

Already have EraSwitch? It offers this version in-app (Settings > Updater > Download & Install) and checks the SHA-256 before installing anything.
Install
Installer (recommended): download eraswitch-0.1.1-setup-x64.exe and run it. It installs for your user only, so there is no admin prompt. The binaries are not code-signed: if SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.
MSI: eraswitch-0.1.1-x64.msi (also x86 and arm64). Per-user by default. For every user on the PC (admin): msiexec /i eraswitch-0.1.1-x64.msi ALLUSERS=2 MSIINSTALLPERUSER="". Add DESKTOPSHORTCUT=0 to skip the desktop icon or AUTOSTART=1 to start with Windows.
Portable: EraSwitch-v0.1.1-x64-portable.exe is the whole app in one exe; EraSwitch-v0.1.1-portable.zip has all three builds and keeps settings next to the exe.
PowerShell: picks the right build for your PC, checks it, and installs it:

SHA256SUMS.txt lists the SHA-256 of every file on this release. In PowerShell, next to the download:

Torrents
Every download is also a .torrent with its GitHub download as the web seed: a BitTorrent client gets it from GitHub when nobody is seeding, and from peers when they are. The magnet links carry the same web seed, but need one peer to fetch the file list first.
