Sheet Tailor 0.6.0

A round of work on the layout editor and on Customize sheet, from the reports of a GM building a full sheet on their own artwork.

The package is now titled Sheet Tailor: Character Sheet Editor, so searching for "sheet editor" or "character sheet" finds it. Only the title changes: the id freeform-sheets, layouts, customizations and the manifest URL stay the same.

Layout editor

  • Guides. While you drag or resize, elements snap to the edges and centers of the other elements and of the page, and to even spacing between neighbours: halfway between two of them, or one more step of the gap two of them already have. Pink lines show the alignment, blue lines the equal gaps. Alt ignores the grid and the guides.
  • Rotation handle. The round handle above the selected element turns it; with Shift, by 15° steps, and it holds a little at right angles. [ and ] turn the selection by 15° (1° with Shift), and Rotation has a slider next to its number.
  • Turned elements resize along their own sides, and the side or corner opposite the handle stays in place. Before, resizing a turned image could blow its box up out of all proportion.
  • Selection rectangle. Drag on an empty spot of the page to select every element it touches (with Shift or Ctrl, added to the selection).
  • Layers by drag and drop. Drag a row of Layers up or down to change what is in front.
  • Bring forward and Send backward pass the next element the selected one overlaps; before, they swapped it with whatever came next in the list, often an element elsewhere on the page, so nothing seemed to happen.
  • A selected element keeps its place in the stacking order. It used to jump to the front while selected, which hid what had just been sent back and let a big background image catch every click.
  • Locked elements let clicks through to what is under them; they are selected from Layers.
  • Past the edge of the page: elements that reach past it show whole in the editor, with handles that can be grabbed, and a dashed line marks where the page ends. The page stays still on screen when an element is dropped past its edge.
  • Move the view with the right or middle mouse button when zoomed in.
  • Rename a page by double-clicking its tab, or with the pencil of the page being edited in Pages, which now takes you to its name.
  • Outlines and highlight on hover of the elements can each be turned off in the top bar; the choice is remembered.
  • Number fields: ↑/↓ change the value; with Ctrl or Shift, ten steps at a time. The font size now steps by 1.
  • A bigger font grows the box of a text, field or roll button instead of cutting the text, away from the side the text is aligned to, so the text stays where it was.
  • A new image is a fixed image shown whole (Contain): the file browser opens right away and the box takes the proportions of the file.
  • Fewer messages: one action no longer shows the same notification several times.

Pages and style

  • Place the background by dragging. Adjust on the page shows the whole picture, faded where the page cuts it, with handles: drag it to choose the part that shows (the clean side of a texture), resize it to put the borders of a frame on the corners of the page. Its edges and center snap to the page's. The fit becomes Free (adjusted on the page), and the place is kept when another fit is chosen.
  • A new background keeps the size of a page that already has elements, covering it; an empty page still takes the image's size. Before, a new image resized the page and broke the layout.
  • Background opacity in Style fades only the background color, not the text.
  • × next to each color field empties it (transparent, or the default color).
  • Use this color for every text on the page, in Background and size: takes away each element's own text color so all of them follow the page's.
  • Centered and right-aligned roll buttons keep their modifier next to the name.

Window

  • The Freeform Sheet shows its window buttons in the title bar (configure sheet, token, standard sheet, export layout...), like the system sheets, instead of behind the ⋮ menu. Buttons other modules add to sheets of the new kind (ApplicationV2) show there too.

Customize sheet

  • Move the artwork as the sheet scrolls (parallax): an option of the artwork. Off, as before, the artwork stays still while a long sheet scrolls.
  • A customized sheet can be resized from its corner again, also while it is being customized.
  • Importing a Freeform Sheet layout in Customize sheet offers to switch the character to the Freeform Sheet with that layout, instead of saying the file is not a layout. A customization imported in the layout editor says where it goes.
  • Saving shows one message; it used to repeat once for each change made in the session.

Checked

  • Foundry 13.351 with FateX 1.5.4, Pathfinder 2e 7.12.2 and D&D 5e 5.3.3: the three smoke tests pass (26, 19 and 21 steps) with no console errors, plus 30 checks of the new editor features.
