Third test build of Refract for Windows. Expect rough edges; bug reports are welcome.

What's new since Test 2

  • Fixed: Yeeps (and other games that ask for a permission) closing about a minute after starting. When a game asked for the microphone, Android opened a permission dialog inside the hidden emulator. Nobody could answer it, the game stopped responding behind it and Android closed it. Refract now grants a game's permissions (microphone, notifications) when it installs the game and again before each launch, so games you already installed are fixed too.
  • The Emulator page keeps what it could read from Android even when part of the check fails, and Export diagnostics always includes the logcat.

Getting started

  1. Download Refract-0.2.0-win64.zip, unzip it somewhere permanent (for example C:\Games\Refract) and open Refract.exe.
Windows SmartScreen may warn because the app isn't signed: click More info > Run anyway.
Updating from an earlier test: close Refract and replace the old folder with the new one. Your library, sign-in and Android stay as they are.
  2. In Settings > Setup, click each button until everything is green. Set up Android downloads about 2.4 GB from Google once.
  3. Click Connect Meta to sign in and see the Quest games you own. Then open a game and choose Download, Install, and Play in VR (Quest Link / Air Link or SteamVR) or Play on PC (mouse and keyboard, or an Xbox controller).

The first install takes a few minutes while Android is set up. README.txt in the zip has the full instructions.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with 16 GB of RAM or more
  • A recent GPU (tested on NVIDIA)
  • Virtualization turned on in the BIOS/UEFI
  • About 10 GB of free disk space, plus room for your games

Known limitations

  • Not every Quest game works yet.
  • Mixed-reality games that need a room scan stop with an error.
  • Tested only on NVIDIA GPUs.

Second test build of Refract for Windows. Expect rough edges; bug reports are welcome.

What's new since Test 1

  • Fixed: games stuck on a black screen with no UI. On a new Android, a system app sometimes crashes or stops responding right after boot, and its error dialog kept the game from ever coming to the front. Refract now hides those dialogs and closes any that are already open before a game starts.
  • New Emulator page (in the sidebar), for checking what's going on when something doesn't work:
    • Overview: Android and emulator status, CPU and memory use, what Refract installed, and details about your PC.
    • Logcat with search, level and per-app filters.
    • Refract's log files, an Android shell, and a screenshot button.
    • Export diagnostics: saves a zip with the logs and details. Please attach it when you report a problem (it's saved in %APPDATA%\Refract\diagnostics; your Meta sign-in is never included).
  • Emulator settings moved to the Emulator page, with new options for CPU cores, audio output, the microphone, showing the emulator window, and keeping Android running after Refract closes.
