Release list
KoboNotebookPlus 0.0.3-alpha
v0.0.3-alpha adds notebook sleep screens to KoboNotebookPlus for the Kobo
Elipsa 2E (condor) running firmware 4.38.23697.
Added
- Show notebook on sleep is available under Kobo's native Energy saving
and privacy settings. - Choose either the notebook Cover (page zero) or Current page.
- A notebook image is used only when sleep or power-off starts from a visible
Advanced Notebook. Books and every other view retain Kobo's stock cover
behavior. - Current-page mode includes the active built-in or custom paper template.
Fixed during device validation
- Current-page ink now retains its exact position, scale, zoom, pan, and canvas
offset instead of being centered or stretched from its content bounding box. - MyScript export extents are interpreted correctly as left/top/right/bottom
coordinates and mapped through the live renderer transform. - The stale last-book reading-status panel is suppressed for notebook images.
- The two new settings match Kobo's native left-label/right-control alignment.
- Rendering failures, busy editors, hidden notebooks, and invalid paths safely
fall back to Kobo's normal book cover.
Verification
- Confirmed on-device on Kobo Elipsa 2E (
condor) firmware4.38.23697,
including current-page/template alignment and native settings alignment. - GitHub CI passed the host suite, all firmware ABI pins, a clean NickelTC ARM
hard-float build, compiled preview ABI verification, strict loader-visible
ABI-delta verification, and exact two-file installer validation. - The ABI gate preserves all 46 baseline exports and 350 baseline imports while
allowing exactly 7 notebook hooks and 29 required Qt imports. All 9 ordered
DT_NEEDEDentries remain unchanged.

Download and installation
Download the attached KoboRoot.tgz and adjacent .sha256 file. Verify the
checksum, place the archive at .kobo/KoboRoot.tgz, eject safely, and reboot.
The complete installer contains only the ARM plugin and the exact stock
libiinknote.so required by this firmware.
Compatibility warning
This build is pinned to Kobo Elipsa 2E (condor), firmware 4.38.23697
only. Installing it on another device or firmware can crash Nickel, corrupt
notebooks, or require recovery. Back up the Kobo database, settings, and
notebooks first.

KoboNotebookPlus 0.0.2-alpha
v0.0.2-alpha is the second experimental KoboNotebookPlus release for the
Kobo Elipsa 2E (condor) running firmware 4.38.23697.
Fixed
- The configured eraser width now survives every pen, toolbar eraser, and
stylus hardware-eraser switch. - The firmware's actual object/brush eraser policy is replayed with the UI
selection, preventing a highlighted Object Eraser from behaving like Brush
Eraser until the mode is toggled. - A guarded zero-delay replay covers erasers restyled or replaced later in the
same Qt event cycle while preserving the selected notebook layer.
Architecture and verification
- The former 8,000-line umbrella translation unit and
.cc.incfragments are
now explicit resolver, runtime, entry-point, hook, visibility, and feature
translation units. make checkcovers artifact, binary-parity, globals-budget, and package
validation tests.- GitHub CI verifies all firmware ABI pins, runs a clean NickelTC build, checks
preview ABI and loader-visible binary parity, validates the exact installer
contents, and publishes short-lived build artifacts. - The refactored build preserves 46 dynamic exports, 350 dynamic imports, and
all 9 orderedDT_NEEDEDentries fromv0.0.1-alpha.
The release was also verified on-device for eraser policy and size switching,
the stylus hardware eraser, selected-layer writing and isolated erasing, layer
previews, covers, templates, page tools, and Home/My Books asset filtering.

KoboNotebookPlus 0.0.1-alpha
v0.0.1-alpha is the first experimental KoboNotebookPlus release for the
Kobo Elipsa 2E (condor) running firmware 4.38.23697.
Added
- Native notebook layers with add, select, delete, and active-layer restore.
- Independent writing and erasing on the selected layer.
- Notebook-ratio layer preview thumbnails with bounded deferred caching.
- Brush and object eraser modes with five eraser sizes.
- Persistent eraser size synchronized with the stylus hardware eraser.
- Custom paper templates and writable first-page notebook covers.
- Cover-aware notebook thumbnails and persisted cover previews.
- Page duplication and reordering with backup and rollback safeguards.
- Filtering which keeps plugin support images out of Home/My Books while
retaining them in template and cover pickers. - Firmware ABI, relocation, artifact, and ARM verification tooling.

Download and installation
For normal installation, download the attached file ending in
KoboRoot.tgz, verify its adjacent SHA-256 file, and place it at
.kobo/KoboRoot.tgz on the supported Kobo. Eject safely and reboot.
The complete installer contains the ARM plugin and the exact stock
libiinknote.so required by firmware 4.38.23697; restoring both together is
the project's crash-safe installation path. The plugin-only ZIP remains
available for developers who manage their own packaging.
Compatibility warning
This build is pinned to Kobo Elipsa 2E (condor), firmware 4.38.23697
only. It calls private firmware APIs. Installing it on another device or
firmware can crash Nickel, corrupt notebooks, or require device recovery.
Back up the Kobo database, settings, and notebooks first, and initially test
with a disposable notebook.
Verification
- Clean NickelTC GCC 4.9.4 build with
-Wall -Wextra -Werror. - Firmware ABI verification: 111 symbols, 5 vtable sizes, 31 vtable slots,
125 instruction pins, and 2 jump slots. - Layer-preview ABI and artifact test suites passed.
- Output: ELF32 ARM EABI5 hard-float shared object.
