Signals and layouts

  • Build stops on the right-hand side in the direction of travel.
  • Parked wagons block their signal block. A train never enters a block with parked wagons. So:
    • Wagons must never stand in the path of trains coming from the network – give every parking track its own block.
    • Where a train couples to wagons across a signal, place its stop a few tiles before the signal and switch on move up to waiting wagons: it moves up slowly, ignoring the signal.
    • A shunting locomotive needs a free block 16 tiles before the end of the wagons.
  • At junctions: chain signal where trains enter, rail signal where they leave – in both directions on tracks used both ways.
  • Dead-end tracks (loading tracks, turnaround) work well for shunting: wagons are always pushed in.

Transfer yard (from the large network scenario)

Mainline trains are always pulled. At the transfer yard the train leaves its wagons on the arrival track, runs around via the locomotive turnaround and takes the wagons provided from the departure track. A shunting locomotive moves the wagons between the transfer yard and the loading tracks.
