First release.

Video wallpaper for Linux on X11 and Wayland, in one file.

Install:

sudo apt install mpv
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
curl -Lo ~/.local/bin/lowpaper https://github.com/Meinianda-L/lowpaper-live-wallpaper/releases/latest/download/lowpaper
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/lowpaper
  • X11 (XFCE, MATE, Cinnamon): mpv draws into a desktop window; desktop icons stay above the video on XFCE.
  • Wayland (Sway, Hyprland, KDE): a small built-in layer-shell helper, compiled once with gcc. mpvpaper is no longer needed.
  • Short clips are decoded once and replayed from RAM.
  • Pauses when the wallpaper is covered, at 0% CPU.
