The speed test rates the speed number too, a healthy card does about 7,000 to 10,000 reads a second, and both ratings sit side by side as Great, Good, OK or Slow.

While it runs you see the speed right now, the reads done and any failed reads, with Cancel next to it, and it stops the moment the card fails instead of running to the end.

Read card reads the chip and DNA ID through the card's normal FTDI or CH347 driver, like other DNA ID tools. WinUSB only goes on by itself when that driver can't read it.

Errors come with a Fix it button now, so the app installs the driver, sets up WinUSB, moves the COM port below 10, syncs the clock or turns restore points on for you. When only you can do it, like moving the cable, it shows the steps and picks it up by itself once it's done.

Something's wrong runs every check on its own, Fix everything does all the fixes in one go, and only what's left gets Copy for ticket.

The speed test shows each step as it runs and has a Cancel button, and it tells you straight away when the cable is in the JTAG port or the card still needs activating. Read card sets up WinUSB on CH347 cards, which it needed to read them at all.

MAKCU is found at both of its speeds, so a plugged in MAKCU shows as connected, and the card's other port no longer shows as an error since the card has one cable.

Guides open in a panel on the right that stays open while you work, with the step you're on marked. Screens open faster, and Report a bug is now Report a bug or idea, in the sidebar.

MewTools 1.0.4

There's a warning at the top of the app now so nobody boots the MAIN PC into Windows with an unflashed card, only into the BIOS, and you have to confirm you understand before it goes away.

Updates install by themselves the next time you start the app, that's on by default now.

Errors show the fix and a Try again button first, and Copy for ticket only shows up if it keeps failing. The bug report form is shorter too.

The speed test no longer fails with an unexpected error when PCILeech prints an odd value.

The MAKCU and FERRUM page has a clear section for each device with its tests, including a new MAKCU connection test that shows its firmware version.

The setup pack checks your date and time and shows green when your GPU and chipset drivers are recent.

Send card info is now Upload Card Info, page and section titles are in Title Case, "Safe" tweaks are called Recommended, installed drivers show green even when the device isn't plugged in, and the msinfo32 steps remind you to delete the file after you upload it.

If the speed test fails with "Access is denied", you now get a clear error that says what's blocking it and how to fix it, and we close any speed test left running from an earlier try before we set it up again.

If the FTDI or Silicon Labs site blocks the download, the app now uses our own checked copy instead, so the drivers and the speed test install without you having to grab files yourself.

A lot of fixes and updates from real testing.

• Updates: MewTools now looks for a new version when it starts and once a day, and you install it in one click. We check every update is really from us before it installs.
• Home: there's a Get started checklist that ticks off each step as you go.
• Send card info: link your mewdma.net account once, then pick your order and firmware. MewTools sends your DNA ID, chip size, IDCODE and card model straight to that order. You see what was sent and what's still missing. The link stays saved on this PC and you can unlink any time.
• Your card box: chip size, IDCODE and DNA ID are all in one place, each with a Copy button, plus Copy all.
• Speed test: you can pick Quick check, Speed only, Throughput only or a 60 second Stability run that shows min, average and max.
• Drivers: each driver now tells you if it's installed and working, installed but not plugged in (and which port to use), or not installed. We added the Silicon Labs CP210x driver for FERRUM. If a vendor site blocks the download, just grab it in your browser and pick the file, and MewTools still checks it's the real file.
• MAKCU and FERRUM: there's a new Update MAKCU to v4 card with the MAKCU Toolkit and our guide. There's also a FERRUM card that finds your FERRUM and tests a real mouse move and left click with the official FERRUM commands.
• Setup pack: we fixed the runtimes check (MT-611) and the check that Microsoft files are genuine. Visual C++ now keeps going if one year fails. It also spots your GPU and CPU and sends you to the right driver app (NVIDIA app, AMD Adrenalin, Intel Driver & Support Assistant, or the manual page for older cards).
• Optimizer: there's a new Apply recommended button and the wording is simpler. Hibernation is now a safe tweak, and we dropped the tweaks that only changed how Windows looks.
• Windows Update and Defender pages are simpler, with no scary red boxes, and there's a switch to stop background apps.
• Startup apps show clean names now, and there's a Turn all off button.
• There's a Report a bug button. Reports save to Documents\MewTools and you get an Open folder button. Every error now links to Something's wrong too.
