Breeze 1.9

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 19 Oct 23:39

What's new in 1.9

Updates

  • Updating the app updates Breeze too. When the app finds an older Breeze running, it replaces it with its own copy and tells you when it's done. Before, the old Breeze kept running until the console restarted.

Presets save themselves (app and web panel)

  • Apply saves your edits into the preset you're using. That preset is marked Active and named above the curve, and the unsaved-changes bar says where Apply will save. Overwrite is gone.
  • The built-in Breeze preset never changes. Edits of it are saved as a new preset, "My curve" (then "My curve 2" and so on), and it can't be renamed or deleted.
  • Use runs a preset straight away (it was Load), New saves the curve as a new preset and uses it, and Reset switches to the built-in preset.
  • A curve from an older Breeze picks up the preset that matches it.

Readouts (app and web panel)

  • GPU temperature next to the CPU's. It's shown only: your curve still follows the CPU.
  • Three boxes: CPU and GPU, Fan and Your curve, and Target. "Curve wants" is now "Your curve".
  • On phones the boxes stack, each keeping its two values side by side.

Install

  • The app: update it from ProsperoStore, or copy the PPSA92878 folder from PPSA92878.zip to /data/homebrew on the console, then open the app once.
  • Payload only: load breeze.elf with Payload Manager or elfldr. A new launch replaces the running copy.

What's new in 1.8.1

Fixes

  • The web panel comes back by itself after rest mode. Rest mode closes the console's network ports, so the panel stayed unreachable until Breeze was restarted, although the fan control kept working. Breeze now reopens it about two seconds after the console wakes up.
  • The same happens when the console gets a new network address from the router.

Install

  • The app: update it from ProsperoStore, or copy the PPSA92878 folder from PPSA92878.zip to /data/homebrew on the console, as before.
  • Payload only: load breeze.elf with Payload Manager or elfldr. A new launch replaces the running copy.

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 19 Oct 18:50

What's new in 1.8

The Breeze app

  • Breeze now has its own app on the PS5 home screen, with its own icon and background art. It looks like the web panel and works with the DualSense, so you can change your fan curve on the TV without a phone or PC.
  • It starts Breeze for you when Breeze isn't running, and Breeze keeps running after you close the app.
  • Four tabs, switched with L1 and R1: Curve, History, Presets and Settings.
  • The top of the screen shows the CPU temperature, the fan speed, what your curve wants and the target Breeze gives the PS5.

Curve tab

  • Left and right choose a dot, up and down change its fan speed, L2 and R2 its temperature.
  • Slide on the touchpad to move the selected dot, no need to press the pad in.
  • Triangle adds a dot, Square removes one.
  • L3 undoes and R3 redoes, up to 100 steps. A run of presses on one dot counts as one step, and so does one touchpad slide.
  • Nothing changes until you press Cross to apply. Circle throws your changes away, and the grey line shows the curve that's running now.

History tab

  • Temperature, fan speed and what the curve wanted, from 5 minutes up to 24 hours.
  • Slide on the touchpad to look back: a line follows your finger and shows how long ago that was and the values at that moment.

Presets tab

  • Cross uses a preset, Triangle saves the curve you're editing as a new one.
  • OPTIONS overwrites the selected preset and Square deletes it; both ask for a second press.
  • Only one preset is marked Active, even when several have the same curve.

Settings tab

  • Turn the custom curve on or off, or reset the curve to Breeze's default.
  • The About box shows the web panel's address, the console's own fan target and the fan minimum right now.

Curve

  • The smooth curve option is gone: dots are always joined by straight lines, so the fan between two dots is easy to read. Curves and presets saved with Smooth on load as straight lines through the same dots.

History

  • Breeze now keeps 24 hours of history instead of 3, and the web panel has new 12h and 24h ranges. The history already saved carries over.
  • Past an hour, looking back reads "1h 10m ago", and the web panel no longer shows "1h 60m".

Good to know

  • While the app is open, the PS5 treats it like a game, so the fan doesn't go below 23%.
  • With the app installed, Breeze no longer adds the browser tile to the home screen, and removes the old one.
  • After a reboot, open the app once to start Breeze, or add breeze.elf to Payload Manager's autoload.

Install

  • Breeze is in the PS5 homebrew catalog, so ProsperoStore can install and update it.
  • By hand: unzip PPSA92878.zip and copy the PPSA92878 folder to /data/homebrew on the console. It needs ShadowMountPlus and an ELF loader on port 9021.
  • Payload only: load breeze.elf with Payload Manager or elfldr, as before. A new launch replaces the running copy.

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 18 Oct 23:34

What's new

The fan is always handed back properly.

  • "Stock" is now really stock. Breeze used to hand the fan back at 77 °C, which isn't the console's own setting. It now learns the console's own target (91 °C on a PS5 Slim) and puts that back, and never anything warmer than 91 °C.
  • Even when Breeze is killed. Killing Breeze from Payload Manager used to leave the fan on Breeze's last setting until you closed or started a game. Now a small helper, breeze-guard.elf, waits next to Breeze and puts the fan back within about a second. You'll see it in Payload Manager's process list: leave it running, it exits by itself once the fan is back. If it's stopped, Breeze restarts it within 10 seconds.

Optional smooth curve. The new Smooth switch on the Curve card bends the curve through your dots instead of joining them with straight lines. It never overshoots, so between two dots the fan stays between their values. Off by default, and each preset keeps its own setting.

History survives a restart. The graph keeps its last 3 hours when Breeze is relaunched.

More exact readouts.

  • The console's minimum fan speed is now read exactly, and the Fan readout says console when another part of the PS5 is asking for more fan than your curve.
  • The target shows one decimal.

Sturdier panel, especially in the PS5 browser: no web fonts to wait for, switches and keys work on older browser engines, and a stuck request can no longer stop the live updates. Plus a few fixes, among them a hover value that read 1% low on falling parts of the curve.

Fan control stays as accurate as before: about 1–2% from your curve in game. Full details in CHANGELOG.md.

Update

Download breeze.elf below and upload it in Payload Manager, replacing the old one. Then launch Breeze: the new copy replaces the running one by itself, and starts breeze-guard.elf on its own.

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 18 Oct 09:18

What's new

New default curve. A fresh install now starts with the latest play-tested curve: 23% up to 60 °C, then 26% at 70 °C, 32% at 75 °C, 37% at 78 °C and 40% at 80 °C. If you already use Breeze, your own curve is kept.

A tidier panel, especially on phones:

  • Four readouts: CPU, Fan, Curve wants and Target, in one row on desktop or 2 × 2 on a phone. The SoC readout is gone.
  • The drag bubble sits above the point on a phone, so the finger holding a point no longer covers its value.
  • The "console minimum" label moved to the left of the chart, out of the way of your points.
  • No more flash of "off": the switches stay greyed out until the console answers.
  • Simpler settings: the Restore button is gone, since the Custom curve switch does the same.
  • A one-line hint under the chart.

Fan control is unchanged from 1.5. Full history in CHANGELOG.md.

Breeze 1.5

Choose a tag to compare

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 18 Oct 08:46

What's new

Much more accurate fan control. Breeze used to steer the PS5's fan controller in whole degrees, so the fan could only land a few percent away from your curve. It now steers in fractions of a degree, which the PS5 turned out to support.

Measured in game, 2.5 minutes each:

1.4 1.5
Average gap between fan and curve 2.8% 0.7%
Time within 2% of the curve 46% 99%
Jumps of 3% or more 1 0

Curve editor: double-click (or double-tap) a point to remove it, just like double-clicking empty space adds one. Clicking a point also no longer nudges it by accident.

Everything else is unchanged: your curve, presets, the 88 °C safety, and the console's own minimum (13% in the menus, 23% in a game).

Breeze 1.4

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 18 Oct 07:55

What's new

  • Fixed: fan stuck at 23% in game until you touched the curve. Breeze now takes over as soon as the fan falls behind your curve.
  • New default curve, "Breeze": play-tested, 23% up to 60 °C and rising gently to 34% at 81 °C.
  • Safer first start: a fresh install stays on stock fan control until you switch Custom curve on once. Breeze remembers it after that.
  • Console minimum shown in the panel: the PS5 never runs the fan below 13% in the menus or 23% in a game. The chart now shows both, so you can see why the fan sits above your curve.
  • Hover tips on the panel buttons, plus many fixes for presets, saving and the panel.

Your existing curve and presets are kept. Full list in CHANGELOG.md, and the README's Good to know explains how the fan behaves.

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 17 Oct 10:28

What's new

  • Home screen tile. Breeze now adds a Breeze tile with the logo to your PS5 home screen. Open it and the panel comes up in the browser. It's set up on the first start, and Breeze reinstalls it only if it goes missing or out of date (for example after changing the panel port).
  • New logo, also shown as the panel's browser tab icon.
  • Panel demo mode: web/panel.html opened on its own runs with sample data, handy for previews. It never activates on the console.

The fan controller is unchanged.

Update

Download breeze.elf below and upload it in Payload Manager, replacing the old one. Then launch Breeze: the new copy replaces the running one, and you'll get a "Breeze added to your home screen" notification.

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 16 Oct 21:22

What's new

  • Rename presets. Tap the pencil next to a preset to rename it: Enter saves, Escape cancels, and a name that's already taken is refused. Overwriting a preset with the editor curve now has its own save icon.
  • No more sideways scrolling on phones. The curve toolbar now always fits on one row, down to 320 px wide screens.
  • README: a new Known limitations section, covering fan readout accuracy, the console's minimum fan speed and short spikes at game launch.

The fan controller is unchanged.

@MiladRTX MiladRTX released this 16 Oct 21:14

Small polish update to the web panel.

What's new

  • Explanations on the readouts. Hover over CPU, SoC, Fan, Curve wants or ICC target (or tap one on your phone) to see what it means.
  • Cleaner point editor on phones. The selected point's label and Remove share one row, and the temperature and fan steppers sit side by side below with bigger − / + buttons.

The fan controller is unchanged from 1.0.

Update

Download breeze.elf below and upload it in Payload Manager, replacing the old one. Then launch Breeze: the new copy replaces the running one, so there's no need to kill it first.
