Releases: MrRockySL/Muro
Release list
Muro 3.0
The biggest Muro yet: three things people asked for, a new look for every screen, and a long list of fixes.
✨ New
🗑️ Delete wallpapers. Remove them one at a time or several at once, your own imported videos included. Nothing goes without asking first.
⏱️ Automations. Change wallpaper on a timer, or give each one its own hours of the day. The day is drawn as a timeline you can drag.
⏸️ Pause after. Let a wallpaper play for a while, then hold on a frame. A held frame costs no CPU. Set it in seconds, minutes or hours.
🔔 Update alerts. Muro now tells you when a new version is out, shows what changed, and downloads it for you.
🎨 Redesigned
The Library, Explore, the top bar and every menu were rebuilt. New background, clearer tabs, and playlists and automations are now cards you can read at a glance. Every dropdown is drawn by Muro instead of by the system, so the whole app finally looks like one app.
🔧 Fixed
🔒 Lock screen wallpapers stick now. Installing from the DMG left Muro's lock-screen extension blocked by macOS, so your choice was dropped and the error told you nothing. Muro clears that itself, checks that macOS really loaded the extension, and waits properly. If macOS still has not caught up, it says exactly what to do and gives you the button.
⚡ Downloads are much faster, and the progress ring actually moves.
🪶 Lighter on your Mac. Video stops decoding when nothing can see it, thumbnails no longer pile up in memory, and changing wallpaper crossfades in place instead of rebuilding the window.
✅ Smaller things. Imports tell you why they failed. Two downloads at once both survive. The auto-pause switches in Settings actually work. A repeated wallpaper in the catalog can no longer stop Muro from starting. Clear no longer removes the lock screen wallpaper it promised to keep.
📦 Installing
Open the DMG and drag Muro into your Applications folder, then open it from there. Muro is free and self signed rather than carrying a paid Apple certificate, so macOS blocks the first launch: open System Settings, go to Privacy and Security, scroll to the message about Muro, and click Open Anyway.
⚠️ Open Muro from Applications, not from inside the DMG. macOS runs apps from a temporary copy otherwise, and the lock screen cannot work that way.
Already have Muro? Download the DMG and replace your copy. Your library, playlists and settings are kept.
Lock screen live wallpapers need macOS 26 or newer. The desktop live wallpaper runs on macOS 14 and up.
Muro 2.0
Lock screen live wallpapers
Muro can now play a live wallpaper on your lock screen, not just the desktop.
Pick any wallpaper, choose Lockscreen or Both, and it plays behind your lock and login screen. It works per display or on all of them at once, and removing it puts your normal lock screen back.
The lock screen feature needs macOS 26 (Tahoe) or newer. The desktop live wallpaper still runs on macOS 14 and up, and stays as light on CPU and RAM as before.

What is new
- NEW badges now mean something. Only wallpapers that have shown up since you last opened Muro get badged. Before this, a fresh install badged everything in the catalog.
- Check for Updates in Settings, under About. It tells you whether you are on the latest version, and links to the download when you are not.
- Groundwork so newly published wallpapers carry a real publish date.
