Assumptions

  • radar blind spots lead to delayed/interrupted detection (shaheds become invisible for certain periods)
  • interceptors need a more or less continuous trajectory until their own sensors lock onto the target
  • radar stations move every day so the blind spot pattern is different every night.
  • additional sensors in the blind spots could reduce the stealth times for Shaheds
  • There are existing, commercially available and cheap solutions to detect Shaheds within approx. 2 km
  • severe shortage of personnel required heavily automated solution.
  • GPS is functional during most of the day

Solution

  • augment radar with mobile multisensor units to fill gaps
  • radar station sends occlusion map to sensor base station
  • flexibly placing such sensor platforms into the blind spots can improve Shahed trajectory tracking
  • sensor base automatically decides locations for sensor units
  • sensor units are autonomously delivered (via copter) to target spots and back (after mission)
  • Sensor units can communicate to the launch platform (mothertruck)
  • sensor base collects trajectory info and forward to radar station

Conditions

  • geolocation must be available during sensor deployment
  • target trajectory communication must be possible during air raid

Impact

  • reduced blind spot areas
  • more accurate/continuous target positioning
  • improved interceptor efficiency
