Internal update: the styles of the new design are now in their own file. New: a design editor for the start page.

Added

• New "Stil" tab in "Homepage bearbeiten": 12 gradient schemes with live preview cards (Sakura, Nebula, Dämmerung, Ozean, Sternenhimmel, Prisma, Neonwelle, Alpin, Terminal, Glut, Mitternacht, Hell). The selected scheme gets a checkmark. Sternenhimmel has stars, Terminal has scanlines, and "Hell" switches the start page texts to dark automatically.
• Custom colors (only in "Stil"): Start and end color replace the colors of the chosen scheme. Clicking a scheme resets them.
• Customize:
  • Gradient direction and background glow (only in "Stil").
  • Corner radius, spacing (compact / normal / airy), font size (small / normal / large) and animations on/off. These work with every background, not only with "Stil".
  • "Design zurücksetzen" resets everything to the defaults.
• Font selection (only in "Stil"): 30+ fonts (sans, serif, mono, handwriting, system fonts such as Comic Sans MS). Every card previews its font right away, without clicking it. The font can apply to the start page only or to the whole app (default: whole app).
• All design settings are saved in localStorage (nb_start_design) and are kept after a restart. The new background mode is stored as style in nb_start_bg_mode.

Changed

• Styles moved to style.css: The whole <style> block of index.html was moved into a separate style.css. index.html now loads it with at the same place where the block used to be.
  • The existing CSS is unchanged. Only the indentation was adjusted.
  • style.css got a new section "DESIGN / STIL" at the end (scheme cards, font cards, settings rows, CSS variables for the start page).
• The Tailwind configuration (tailwind.config = {...}) stays in index.html, because it is JavaScript and not CSS.
• The <style> example inside the sandbox template also stays in index.html, because it is part of the example text.
• The "Homepage bearbeiten" window is wider and scrolls when the content is long.
• Start page elements (search field, tiles, spacing) now use CSS variables, so corner radius, spacing and size can be changed.

Note

• style.css must be in the same folder as index.html and must be included in the installer (check the files list in package.json if you list files one by one). If it is missing, the interface loads without its styles.
• Fonts other than the system fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and need an internet connection. Without it, a fallback font is used.

Small update with a switch between the new and the old design, a new About window and a fix for the certificate warning page.

Added

• Old design is back : Type old in the console to switch to the old design and new to switch back.
  • Your open tabs (including pinned and active tab) are carried over when switching.
  • The chosen design is saved and used again on the next start.
  • The old design keeps its original look (colors, font, tab shape, toolbar, start page, settings with accent colors) but now has all current features: proceed anyway, error pages, security icon, start page backgrounds, update indicator, Discord, console commands, download buttons and window resizing.
  • Both commands are listed in help. If you are already in the requested design, the console just says so.
• About window: New "About" link next to the version in the settings (new design only). It shows who made the design and the code (BenKormos).

Changed

• In the old design, the console button now opens the separate console window (like in the new design) instead of the old bottom bar, so console commands work in both designs.
• The old design stores its accent color separately, so the new design doesn't overwrite it.
• Old browser:// addresses (bookmarks, homepage setting) are converted to nn:// automatically.

Fixed

• The "Schließen" button on nn://notsecure no longer closes the whole browser window. It now only closes the current tab and is labeled "Tab schließen". If it was the only tab, a new start page opens instead.
• The window state (maximized or normal) is now sent again after the interface reloads, so the window controls stay correct after a design switch.

Small update with a new start page background system and a way to open pages with certificate warnings.

Added

• "Proceed anyway" on nn://notsecure: Pages with an untrusted certificate can now be opened on purpose via the new red "Trotzdem fortfahren (unsicher)" button.
  • The exception only applies to that one domain and only until the browser is restarted.
  • The page loads in the same history entry, so the Back button doesn't lead back to the warning.
  • The address bar shows a yellow warning triangle instead of the green padlock for these pages.
  • The details text on the warning page now explains the risk.
• Start page backgrounds: "Homepage bearbeiten" now offers five modes:
  • Spotlight: Windows Spotlight images loaded online from the Spotlight API (up to 4K).
  • Landscape: Daily landscape and nature photos from the Bing image archive.
  • Own image: Upload your own PNG, JPG or WebP (720p to 4K), as before.
  • Color: 8 preset colors or a custom color. The text color adapts automatically on light backgrounds.
  • None: No background.
• "Anderes Bild" button to switch the current Spotlight or landscape image right away.
• Title and copyright of the current photo are shown in the bottom left corner of the start page.

Changed

• Without a custom image, the start page now uses Windows Spotlight by default. An existing custom image is kept.
• If Spotlight can't be reached, landscape images are used as a fallback, and the editor shows a hint.
• A random Spotlight or landscape image is picked on every browser start.
• "Homepage bearbeiten" was redesigned with a mode selector and live preview, and the dialog is a bit wider.

Fixed

• The start page background no longer shows up on the error pages (nn://error, nn://notsecure).

Note

• The Spotlight API is not officially documented by Microsoft and may change at any time. That is why landscape images serve as a fallback.
